Recap / Yu Gi Oh VRAINS Ep 8 The One Who Commands The Wind

Go To

Due to Hanoi's program, Aoi Zaizen is now in a comatose state. Feeling responsible for dragging her into his battle against Hanoi, Yusaku tries to investigate the cause of this together with Kusanagi. However, Blue Angel, who is supposed to be in a coma, then appears on the city's monitors, and challenges Playmaker to a rematch!

This episode contains the following tropes:

  • Antagonist Title: "The one who controls the wind" refers to Revolver, not Yusaku as many assumed.
  • Badass Boast: Revolver claims that he can take down the entirety of Link VRAINS should he be given a reason to.
  • Badass in Distress: Playmaker gets captured by Ghost Girl so he can be interrogated regarding Aoi/Blue Angel's comatose state.
  • Blow You Away: Revolver demonstrates his capability of controlling Data Storms.
  • Cassandra Truth: Akira initially declines to believe that Playmaker was not responsible for planting a virus into Aoi/Blue Angel, until Revolver appears and confesses that the Knights of Hanoi were responsible for the act.
  • Cold-Blooded Torture: Akira aggressively interrogates Playmaker regarding Aoi/Blue Angel's comatose state, threatening to crush him if he doesn't confess that he was responsible for planting a virus in her.
  • Convenient Coma: Aoi ends up in one after her Duel with Playmaker.
  • Easily Forgiven: Even after a hostile interrogation, Playmaker doesn't resent Akira, the former's hatred towards the Knights of Hanoi outweighing any form of hatred he might bear towards Akira.
  • Mistaken for Romance: Akira asks if Yusaku is Aoi's boyfriend (since he brought her into the hospital).
  • Mythology Gag: Eagle wears an eyepiece with a yellow lens and red frame that resembles a D-Gazer on his left eye.
  • Poor Communication Kills: Playmaker tries to tell Akira that he's innocent by telling him "that card (with Hanoi's program) was already in Blue Angel's deck before we dueled," meaning a third party slipped it in before the duel. Because Playmaker doesn't specify Aoi's innocence, Akira thinks Playmaker is claiming that Aoi put the card in the deck herself (and thus is working with Hanoi).
  • Rule of Three: Yusaku's reasons for going after the fake Blue Angel:
    • The real Blue Angel has yet to regain consciousness.
    • If the fake is a Knight of Hanoi, he'll learn how to cure Blue Angel.
    • If the fake is affiliated with SOL Technologies, he'll explain to them what happened to Blue Angel.
  • Surprisingly Realistic Outcome: When Akira tries to follow Aoi into the emergency room, a nurse holds him back because he's not allowed.
  • Villains Never Lie: Revolver quickly confesses that the Knights of Hanoi were responsible for planting a virus into Blue Angel.
  • Wham Shot: Guess what? Revolver can control the Data Storm!
