Having received some new info from Kusanagi, Playmaker and Soulburner head for a new gate that has recently appeared. However, it turns out that Blood Shepherd has set up a trap there. After capturing Soulburner, Blood Shepherd searches through his memories.

This episode contains the following tropes:

  • Armor-Piercing Question: During a dojo training session, while Takeru's grandfather has no problem with him abstaining from school altogether, he does question whether or not Takeru's making a sensible decision closing himself off to the rest of the world and not attending school.
  • An Astral Projection, Not a Ghost: Takeru initially thinks Flame is a ghost haunting him.
  • Atrocious Alias: How Takeru feels when Ryujiro reveals that people call the latter "Mad Marsh". He also accuses him of making it up on the spot.
  • Hopeless with Tech: Takeru has no idea how to operate a touch screen.
  • Hostage Situation: The Mizunumas and their gang hold Kiku and her phone hostage so they can coax Takeru into coming out and confronting Ryujiro in a Duel.
  • I Gave My Word: One of the thugs accompanying the Mizunuma brothers hands back Kiku her phone without question when Takeru agrees to Duel Ryujiro.
  • Not So Above It All: The normally intimidating Takeru freaks out when he discovers that an Ignis entered his Duel Disk, to the point that he tries to destroy his own Duel Disk just to get rid of the Ignis.
  • An Offer You Can't Refuse: The Mizunumas and their gang coax Takeru into Dueling Ryujiro by holding Kiku and her phone hostage; though hesitant to pick up Dueling again due to past traumas, Takeru eventually agrees after some encouragement from Flame.
  • Trauma Button: The moment Ryujiro announces that he is Summoning "Despair from the Dark", Takeru recalls the traumas he experienced as a victim of the Lost Incident, and can only hesitate and freak out in retaliation.
  • Whole Episode Flashback: Almost the entire episode spends time delving into Takeru's past and his personal circumstances prior to departing for Den City to join Yusaku.
