Recap / Yu-Gi-Oh! VRAINS Ep 56 Blue Girl's First Battle!

Go To

Having received a request from the Wind Ignis, Soulburner commences a Duel against Blue Girl. While he receives some damage due to Blue Girl's Trickstars, he still manages to summon Salamangreat Heatleo and launch an attack with it. However, Blue Girl then proceeds to drive Soulburner into a corner with her new tactics.

This episode contains the following tropes:

  • Deliberate Injury Gambit: Soulburner endures Blue Girl's rapid burn damage so he can Summon Salamangreat Monsters and thus bring out his signature Monster, Salamangreat Heatleo.
  • Hoist by His Own Petard:
    • Defied. Because Soulburner's Skill, Burning Draw, is a risky gamble which doesn't go well with Blue Girl's Death of a Thousand Cuts play style, he abstains from activating it from the get-go.
    • Soulburner using Blue Girl's Trickstar Divaridis as Material to perform a Fusion Summon contributes to her defeat.
    • Blue Girl attempts to lower the impending damage from Violet Chimera’s attack by using Calobane’s discard effect to increase Sweet Guitar’s ATK. Unfortunately for her, Violet Chimera’s ATK doubles while battling a monster whose original ATK has changed, so what would have just given a good chunk of damage turns into a One-Turn Kill.
  • Honor Before Reason: Not having the heart to take on a physically taxed Soulburner after he defeats Blue Girl and not willing to continue without her partner, Ghost Girl lets him off the hook and retreats.
  • Know When to Fold 'Em: After Blue Girl is forcibly logged out after her loss to Soulburner, Ghost Girl opts to go, unable to go on without her partner, and not having the heart to attack Soulburner when he is exhausted.
  • One-Hit Kill: Salamangreat Violet Chimera gains ATK equal to half the combined ATK of its Fusion Materials, which then gets doubled as it's battling a Monster whose ATK has changed, thus wiping out all 4000 of Blue Girl's LP in one go.
