-Yami Yugi

Tropes

  • Apathetic Citizens: Inverted- the citizens of Domino are very much concerned with the monsters attacking them, but the protagonists couldn't care less.
  • As You Know: The characters discuss the events of Yu-Gi-Oh! The Movie: Pyramid of Light as if they hadn't been there... which may be true, because who knows how canon it is.
  • Badass Biker: Dartz's henchmen. Tristan mistakes them for the Biker Mice from Mars.
  • Cool, but Inefficient: The Millennium Puzzle looks cool when it glows, but it doesn't pack the same punch that the opponent's magic does.
  • Did You Just Punch Out Cthulhu?: Yugi destroys an Orichalcos-enhanced Obelisk the Tormentor with just three generic monster cards.
  • Everybody Hates Mathematics: Yugi's grades are dropping because Yami would rather cut class than sit through math.
  • Game-Breaker: In-universe example as Yami complains about his opponent's "OP bullshit".
  • Hostage Situation: The villains swipe Yugi's god cards for leverage.
  • Hypocritical Humor: Yami's opponent objects to being called "bro", but refers to Yami as such later on anyway.
  • Laser-Guided Amnesia: Rex and Weevil get their minds wiped. Thankfully, they act more or less the same when brain dead.
  • Medal of Dishonor: Tristan got an A+ in trying at school. He's dumb as a rock.
  • Mood Whiplash: The episode opens with Professor Hawkins making an epic discovery... and then cuts him off to show Rex and Weevil doing nothing of real importance.
  • Never Say "Die": Unusually for this show, inverted rather than parodied. Bro's soul is ripped out by the Seal of Orichalcos, which is not an uncommon occurrence in Yu-Gi-Oh!, but Joey says that Yugi "apparently killed a man," which is technically not true. This carries over into the next episode.
  • Refugee from TV Land: The characters on Duel Monster cards are being magically brought to life.
  • Shout-Out: Rex thinks that the Villain of the Week is a Jedi.
    • Joey wants to watch Aaahh!!! Real Monsters rather than deal with the living duel monsters terrorizing Domino City.
    • Grandpa has fallen and he can't get up!
  • Take That, Scrappy!: The protags label Dartz's henchmen as being "lame" almost immediately after meeting them. They (along with many aspects of season 4) are often seen as being the least memorable parts of the series. invoked
  • There's No Kill like Overkill: As if the Egyptian God Cards aren't powerful enough, Obelisk ends up being strengthened further by the Seal of Orichalcos. Yami's reaction says it all.
"That's some OP shit right there!"
  • This Is for Emphasis, Bitch!: Yami goes a little overboard with it.
"Yes, but only because I'm going to beat you bitch-ass so hard that every other bitch-ass duelist will retire in bitch-ass shame. It'll be called the bitch-ass retirement plan. Named after you, ya bitch-ass!
  • Villain of the Week: One who's so unimportant to the larger plot that he doesn't even have a backstory, specific motivation, or a name.
  • You Have Failed Me: Yami's opponent gets offed by Dartz for losing their duel. His other henchmen chalk it up to their boss being "a notorious douche".
