Alexis wishes to test her own skills against Jaden. Meanwhile, Dr. Crowler devises a plan to get Jaden expelled from Duel Academy.
- Dub Induced Plothole: When Crowler plants the fake love letter, he finds Jaden's boots in a locker solely because they're red. In the Japanese version, the boots had Jaden's name inside of them. Of course since the locker was shared with Syrus, it raises the question of why Syrus thought the letter was for him even before learning it was a love letter from Alexis.
- Failed a Spot Check: Twice in the English version. Alexis informs Syrus that her supposed love letter to him has her name misspelled and it's addressed to Jaden.
- Human Shield: Inverted. Jaden's first move is to attack Alexis' Etoile Cyber with his Sparkman. Alexis activates her Doble Passe trap card taking a direct attack from Sparkman in exchange for allowing her Etoile Cyber to attack Jaden directly.
- I Gave My Word: After Jaden wins the duel, Alexis assures him and Syrus that she and her friends won't say anything about them trespassing at the Girl's Dorm. When Jasmine says she thinks they should report them anyway, Alexis refuses, saying Jaden beat her fair and square.
- I Lied: Alexis doesn't say it out loud, but she notes to herself that even if she had won her duel with Jaden there was no way she was going to report him and Syrus, since she finds Duel Academy much more fun with them than without them.
- Inconsistent Spelling: When Alexis and her friends see the fake love letter Syrus found, Alexis says her name isn't even spelled right.
- Insult Backfire: After Crowler talks down about the Slifer Reds when Syrus fails to answer his question, Jaden speaks up saying Crowler shouldn't insult the red students like that, explaining that he is a red himself and he beat Crowler, so if he makes fun of them he is kind of making fun of himself. This leads to the whole class laughing at Crowler.
- Locker Mail: Crowler plants a fake love letter in Jaden (and Syrus)'s locker.
- Love Letter Lunacy: The plot centers around a fake love letter being given to the wrong target.
- Sadist Teacher: Crowler during class orders students to explain various cards. He puts Syrus on the spot to explain Field Spells. Syrus despite knowing the answer comes down with some stage fright, can't really get an answer out and gets mocked by everyone except Jaden, Alexis, Bastion, and the other red students.
- Signed with a Kiss: Syrus receives a letter with a kiss on the envelope. The letter is signed from Alexis; however, it's actually a ploy from Dr. Crowler, who intended to give it to Jaden, but placed the letter in the wrong locker.
- Weak, but Skilled: Elemental Hero Thunder Giant. While 2400 attack points is impressive, its going up against Alexis' 3600 attack Cyber Blader. Jaden uses Thunder Giant's special ability to destroy a monster whose original attack points were less than it's. Since Cyber Blader's original attack total was 2100, it gets destroyed, leaving Alexis open to a direct attack from Thunder Giant.
