Recap / Yu Gi Oh First Anime Series Ep 26 Rival Clash The Greatest Crisis

Go To

With Yami Yugi taking over rolling dice, the rules of the Monster World game are restated, with Yami Bakura warning him that if the party's HP reaches zero, his friends will die. Yami Yugi realizes he'll need to roll a series of super critical hits to win. As the battle continues, the piece of Zorc's flesh that was lopped off grows into new monsters. Zorc himself leaves to prepare a more fitting stage, leaving the monsters to attend to Yugi and his friends. Yami Yugi uses the double hit technique to score super critical hits—the same technique Bakura uses—and the party is able to defeat one monster and tame the other, and Poki joins their party.

Both darker halves agree to roll without cheating by dropping the dice rather than spinning. Yugi's party reaches the castle, and Poki warns the group of death traps. The castle itself opens into an adventuring field, with Yami Bakura challenging the group to find Zorc and defeat him—but a suspicious-looking tower turns out to be a trap. A spiked ceiling descends on the group that increases in weight, and Yami Yugi only gets three rolls before it crushes them and they die.

On the last possible roll, Yami Yugi realizes only a certain set of numbers fit the relief in the tower, and rolls a 66—but the correct number is 99. Luckily, Miho's fairy merchant powers let her freely change the number, and the group is saved. Zorc attacks again, but the group attack Zorc from behind and score critical hits... but their low level means he's barely damaged at all, and now he has free rein to respond.

This episode contains examples of:

  • Deus ex Machina: A different form than in the manga. In the manga Yami Yugi's last roll was 33, the correct number, but here he makes an incorrect roll and Miho's fairy merchant powers change it to the right number.
  • Support Party Member: Miho doesn't attack at all throughout the entire adventure, but without her fairy merchant powers everyone would be dead.
