Recap / Yu Gi Oh Arc V Ep 106 Arc Area Project

Go To

Reuniting with Yuzu at the Fusion Dimension’s You Show School, Yusho explains how he came to be in Fusion Dimension. Three years ago, after Reiji crossed dimensions to find his father and was sent back to standard, he looked into his father's research and discovered the truth of the Four Dimensions. Reiji asked Yusho to lead the Lancers he was forming to fight back, but Yusho thought he could reason with Leo, since they developed Action Duels together, and used the dimensional travel device Reiji had built. However, it sent him to the Xyz Dimension instead of Fusion, so he began teaching dueling there until Academia attacked.

Two students come to take Yusho for treatment, and Yuzu notices his legs is injured. Alone, Yuzu asks Asuka why Academia is invading other dimensions. Asuka explains it is for the sake of the Arc Area Project, which will unite the dimensions into a utopia. When Leo began the invasions a year ago, Asuka wasn't selected to take part in the first attack, but believed in the cause. When the invaders returned, Asuka comforted a girl who was uncomfortable with what she had done, and she revealed to Asuka they had carded everyone, not just duelists. Disillusioned, Asuka flees Academia with the student and goes to the mainland, but are caught by Academia agents and her friend is carded. At that moment Yusho arrives with Sky Magician to save her. They founded this branch of You Show together, and all their students are invaders of the Xyz Dimension who could not stomach what they had done.

At that moment, students run in and tell Asuka Academia has found them. On the streets, Yuri confronts five You Show duelists and duels them. He summons "Predator Plant Squid Drosera" and "Predator Plant Moray Nepenthes." The five You Show students summon "Ojama King," "Super Vehicroid Jumbo Drill," "Master of Oz," "VW-Tiger Catapult," and "XYZ-Dragon Cannon." The final student uses Dragon Cannon's effect to destroy Moray Nepenthes, then combines it with VW-Tiger Catapult to summon "VWXYZ-Dragon Catapult Cannon" to banish Squid Drosera. When Squid Dosera leaves the field its effect activates, placing a Predator Counter on all enemy monsters that were Special Summoned.

Yuri takes his turn and Fusion Summons "Starve Venom Fusion Dragon." By its effect, it gains ATK equal to the ATK of all Special Summoned enemy monsters, rising to 13000. Yuri then uses Starve Venom's effect to copy the effect of an opponent's monster; he copies Jumbo Drill. Yuri attacks the fourth duelist directly since he controls no monsters, and then discards another copy of Squid Drosera to force Starve Venom to attack all monsters his opponent controls with Predator Counters. In an instant, the five You Show duelists are defeated and carded. Asuka and Yuzu arrive and Yuri approaches them. Then Yugo drives up and Yuzu's bracelet activates, teleporting Yuri away. Yugo is happy to see Yuzu again, and the two agree that Rin and Serena are at Academia with Ruri.

At Academia, Leo informs two of his duelists, the Tyler sisters, that duelists using Pendulum Monsters have been sighted in Xyz, and tells them to go intervene.

This episode contains the following tropes:

  • Big Damn Heroes:
    • In the past, Yusho saved Asuka from the Juvenile Officers after she left Academia.
    • Just when Yuri is about to duel Yuzu and Asuka, Yugo arrives and causes Yuzu's bracelet to teleport Yuri away.
  • Call-Back: Yugo returns and, once again, attempts to glomp Yuzu. Cue the Paper Fan of Doom.
  • Chekhov's Gun: Remember how Yusho went missing on the day of his championship match against Strong Ishijima? Here we find out that it was because he decided to help Reiji confront Leo Akaba.
  • Conservation of Ninjutsu: Five duelists team up to face Yuri at once? No problem, he beats all five of them in the same turn.
  • Dented Iron: Yusho can barely walk due to his duel against Edo and needs his students to help him get around.
  • Foreshadowing: Reiji's respect for Yusho makes sense when you realize Reiji wanted Yusho to be the leader of the Lancers.
  • The Gadfly: Yuri really dislikes the Ojamas and takes every chance he gets to mock them and the You Show duelist that uses them.
  • Locked Out of the Loop: No one ever had the chance to tell Yugo that Yuzu had survived the duel with Sergey, so he had presumed she was dead.
  • Mistreatment-Induced Betrayal: Asuka was still loyal to the Academia, but she turned against them when they carded a fellow student.
  • Mythology Gag:
    • Each of the You Show Youths that dueled against Yuri used archetypes that were used by major characters from GX.
    • Other students from You Show shown at the beginning also used cards from GX, such as one of Misawa's Magnet Warrior monster.
    • Ojama King's effect is represented by creating the Ojama Trio in the opponent's monster zones, just like in GX.
  • Nice Job Breaking It, Hero: Using Dragon Catapult Cannon's effect to remove Yuri's Predator Plant from the field gave Yuri the Predator Counters he needed to attack everyone. Also summoning Jumbo Drill and other Fusion monsters gave Starve Venom massive attack power and the ability to cause piercing damage.
  • Number Two: Asuka is Yusho's. They personally created You Show in the Fusion Dimension together.
  • One-Turn Kill: How Yuri defeats the You Show Youth.
  • Palette Swap: Two random Duelists in Asuka’s flashback have the same facial and hair designs as Misawa and Ryo.
  • Sadist: Yuri. He licks his lips just before he starts his winning move.
  • Say My Name:
    Yugo: "YUZUUUU!" *smack*
  • Shower Scene: Yuzu is shown taking one (complete with Sexy Silhouette) while Asuka is telling her her defection story. This was cut from the dub.
  • Significant Wardrobe Shift: After the aforementioned shower, Yuzu sports Asuka's pre-Duel Academy clothes for the remainder of the series.
  • Underestimating Badassery: The You Show Youths were sure they would beat Yuri due to their numbers...
  • The Worf Effect: Starve Venom Fusion Dragon defeats five duelists in one turn to show off how powerful it is. Going even further, the other duelists were using Vehicroids, Master of Oz, Ojamas and VWXYZ; in other words, the writers are saying that Yuri stronger than Sho, Hayato and Manjoume combined.
  • Worthy Opponent: Yuri shows some respect for the two VWXYZ duelists, due to their combos that let them summon their combined strongest monster on their first turns. It doesn't save them, though.
