- Can't See a Damn Thing: Xena and Gabrielle lose sight of each other during a dust storm.
- Deadly Dust Storm: A dust storm put Gabrielle in a situation where she killed an innocent man, yet it was a dust storm that allowed them to get the jump on a Roman legion.
- Enemy Mine: Xena intentionally leads the Roman army to the nomad camp just as they were about to execute Gabrielle. This is only a short term partnership and under a disguise as her true goal is to save her friend and unite the nomads to take on the Romans.
- Hidden Army Reveal: While the Romans weather the dust storm, they realize too late that the nomads were hiding under their feet the whole time.
- Historical Domain Character: Kahina, though in her case she appears centuries before her real life counterpart.
- In-Series Nickname: Gabrielle gets one herself as the 'Battling Bard of Poteidaia. She's pretty inspired that she's become popular enough to gain one.I think it has character.
- Mistaken for Index: When Gabrielle saw someone approaching Xena with an item on his hand during a dust storm, she thought it was a weapon. It was only after she stabbed him that she realized that it was their ally Korah and he was going to give her one of her scrolls.
- Sand Necktie: Gabrielle for the second time in the series. This time around, the nomads intend to kill her before she dies of thirst.
