UNCANNY X-MEN#111 Beast discovers the Mansion has been abandoned for weeks. Learning Professor Xavier is on vacation, He tracks the X-Men down to a Circus, working as sideshow freaks with no memories of their previous lives. Beast gets captured and taken to the leader- Mesmero, who has done this as revenge on the X-Men for past defeats. Wolverine, hypnotized as a wild man freak, breaks free from a primal urge within himself. He frees Phoenix, who subsequently frees the others. After defeating Mesmero’s men, the X-Men enter Mesmero’s wagon car to discover both Beast and Mesmero unconscious. The perpetrator reveals himself: Magneto!

UXM#112 Magneto magnetically takes the Wagon carrying himself and the X-Men to his headquarters (dropping Mesmero off). The base is inside a volcano (a force field protects the base from the lava). The X-Men attack him one by one, only for Magneto to defeat them all. He imprisons his captives in machines that neutralize their motor skills, rendering them with the abilities of infants.

UXM#113 Magneto goes on a rampage. Professor Xavier finds he has lost contact with the team. In their motor-skill handicapped positions, the X-Men suffer. Storm, who at six months had the coordination of a child, is able to access her lock picks (inside her tiara) and mouth-operates them to unlock her manacles. After two tries, she frees herself and the X-Men. Working as a team, they ambush Magneto and come close to defeating him. But the Battle damages the machines keeping the force field operative, causing molten lava to tear through the base. Magneto escapes. Beast and Phoenix are separated from the rest of the team and make it to the surface.

UXM#114 Phoenix and Beast accept the horrible truth that the X-Men have been killed by the lava. They return to the US and tell Professor Xavier the bad news. Actually, the X-Men have survived. Noting a map at Magneto’s base, Cyclops has the team tunnel their way to the nearby Savage Land. The team go to the Fall People’s camp and nurse their wounds, convinced that Phoenix and Beast were killed. Scott notes his resemblance to the Starjammer Corsair and his lack of grief for Jean. Storm takes a bath at the river, when a stalker touches her, draining her energy. The X-Men arrive to see the stalker has transformed into Sauron.

UXM#115 Sauron hypnotizes Eolverine into attacking his teammates. However the X-Men manage to defeat Sauron, who transforms back to Paul Lykos. Ka-Zar comes to Lykos’ defense. The lord tells the X-Men of threatening situations in the Savage Land. A so-called god named Garokk has created a city in his cause, forcing the Savage Land tribes to either settle there or die. He asks the X-Men for help, but Cyclops turns him down, citing other priorities. Ka-Zar accepts and leads the team to the border, only to find an uncharacteristic snowfall has started. Garokk’s city is damaging the Savage Land environment. Cyclops changes his mind.

UXM#116 Ka-Zar and the X-Men head for Garokk’s city where Ka-Zar, Cyclops, Colossus, and Banshee get captured. Wolverine, Nightcrawler, and Storm sneak into the city where they find their friends being put up as sacrifices. Nightcrawler frees them and they battle Garokk, his priestess Zaladane, and their guards. In the battle, Garokk falls into a pit, seemingly killed despite Storm’s attempts. The destruction of the city restores the Savage Land. Meanwhile, Jean leaves the mansion.

UXM#117 The X-Men use a makeshift boat to leave the Savage Land. They get picked up by a Japanese ship. In Greece, Professor Xavier thinks about his past. He decides to leave Earth to join Lilandra in space.

UXM#118 Six weeks later, the X-Men reach Agarashima, Tokyo which is suffering through a fire and earthquake. The team head to Sunfire’s residence which is on heavy guard. They meet with their ex-teammate as well as Misty Knight and Colleen Wing who ask for their help. A terrorist named Moses Magnum had caused an attack on Tokyo. Wolverine wanders the Yashida residence, where he becomes smitten with a resident, Sunfire’s cousin Mariko. Cyclops attempts to call Professor Xavier and learns the Mansion’s phone communications are out of service. The house gets attacked by Mandroids. The X-Men make short work of them. They get a message from Moses Magnum, who blackmails Japan with his threat to level it.

UXM#119 The X-Men locate Moses Magnum’s volcano base. They are too late to stop him from working the process. Banshee uses his sonic cry to make a wall of energy equal to the frequency of Magnum’s power. The backlash destroys Magnum’s base, but badly injured Banshee. Three days later, the recovering Banshee is welcomed with a Christmas party by his teammates. Meanwhile in Edinburgh, Jean Grey returns from vacation and celebrates Christmas with Moira, Madrox, Alex, and Lorna Dane. At Muir Isle, Angus Mac Whirter breaks into Moira’s Research Center. He is met by something deadly.

UXM#120 In Canada, the Prime Minister assigns Major Maple Leaf, now named Vindicator to recover Wolverine. He gets his new team Alpha Flight. The X-Men, Misty Knight, and Colleen Wing depart Japan on a private Jet (but not before Wolverine makes a tender goodbye to Mariko, even giving her his name Logan). Weather conditions (caused by the Alpha Shaman) force the aircraft to land in Calgary Canada. Learning of their threat , the team make an escape. Both Nightcrawler and Wolverine get captured.

UXM#121 The X-Men track down their captive teammates, where they are confronted by Alpha Flight. Vindicator tries to negotiate a peaceful parting, but a suspicious Colossus attacks, forcing a fight. Wolverine and Nightcrawler join the battle as well. Shaman accidentally causes a blizzard that threatens Calgary, leading Storm to get into its nexus to restore things to normal. Wolverine then convinces Cyclops that he will give himself peacefully to Alpha Flight. The X-Men sadly depart on their plane, intending to turn back and rescue their friend, only to find Wolverine is already on the plane, having escaped.
