Issue: #1

Released: April 16th, 2014

Cybertron, six months after the end of the Dark Cybertron incident. Windblade watches the sun rise, spars briefly with her friend and bodyguard Chromia, and goes off to talk to Metroplex, a Transformer the size of a city whose brain has been so badly damaged that he can only speak one language - and she's the only person who can translate. Starscream barges in to talk to her and sends Chromia off to guard the door with his flunky Rattrap. Metroplex is not doing well, as it turns out. Windblade's doing everything she can, but there are still problems for the bots living inside him. Starscream threatens to tell the people of Cybertron that she's the real problem, then leaves with Rattrap. Chromia expresses surprise that nobody killed him during the war.

Windblade returns to Metroplex. She asks him why the blackouts are happening, but can't get a clear answer; his mind is full of random poetry, status updates, and occasionally an actual thought. All she manages to gather is that power is being diverted to a location she doesn't recognize. She heads off to go ask Ironhide, who is far more familiar with Metroplex's inner workings, where the power is going. He's had an existential crisis after his vision of the future was contradicted, and has apparently been wandering around Metroplex's innards ever since. He tells her that the junction she's looking for is under the Acrolight District. She asks what he knows about Starscream, but he tells her that "you gotta ask his friends, not his enemies" to know who a person is.

Windblade heads off to meet up with Chromia and head into the depths of Metroplex. After a while, Chromia persuades her to call the search off for the night, and Windblade heads over to Maccadam's Old Oil House, the bar in Iacon. She's looking for information, especially about Starscream. As it turns out, everyone hates him and he's a horrible conniving backstabber. She meets Chromia in the Acrolight District the next morning, but their search is interrupted by a massive explosion that wounds Windblade badly.

Windblade narrates a bit of explanation about the colonies and what she's doing on Cybertron while she's recovering. She comes to the conclusion that Starscream tried to kill her with the explosion.

Tropes

  • Alien Blood: Windblade's blood is alien even for Cybertronians. Hers is blue; it's usually pink.
  • Camera Abuse: The pages showing the explosion are monochrome except for Windblade's energon and eyes, Chromia's eyes, and the red of the explosion. Also, we get a POV shot from Windblade's perspective right after the explosion; it's blurry and the top right corner is badly cracked.
  • In Vino Veritas: Windblade's method for getting information about Starscream out of the bots at Maccadam's.
  • Previously on…: The same one MTMTE and RID used for the first issue of their second seasons. It very briefly summarizes Dark Cybertron and explains what happened to Optimus, Megatron, and Windblade.
  • Splash of Color: The blue of Windblade's energon.
