Recap / We Bare Bears S 1 E 23 Chloe And Ice Bear

Go To
On a day out with just Ice Bear, Chloe realizes Ice Bear only runs errands for his brothers. Determined to show him a fun day in the city, Chloe promises to help Ice Bear have a good time, even if it means staying in a museum after it closes.

  • Artistic License – Biology: The alligator's teeth are shown to be hidden inside its mouth. The upper teeth should at least be visible.
  • Artistic License – Paleontology: The Tyrannosaurus skeleton in the museum has three fingers per hand, and its fenestrae are switched around.
  • Continuity Nod:
    • Chloe and Ice Bear visit the same diner from the first episode.
    • Ice Bear visibly recoils when he notices a crab in the museum's crab exhibit.
  • Commonality Connection: Ice Bear seems to be interested in the albino alligator because it also has white skin.
  • Cringe Comedy: Chloe's increasingly desperate attempts to bond with Ice Bear and find something he enjoys.
  • A Day in the Limelight: As the title suggests, Chloe and Ice Bear are the focus of this episode.
  • Didn't Think This Through: Chloe jumps into the albino alligator enclosure with a sandwich to lure it out. Ice Bear has to jump down with her when the guard comes looking. Fortunately, the alligator only wants the sandwich.

  • Foreshadowing: At the beginning, Chloe has a photo of her with the bears. While Grizz and Panda are close to Chloe in the photo, Ice Bear is seen at the back. This shows how distance the relationship between Chloe and Ice Bear is as throughout the episode Chloe is having difficulty trying to bond with him.
  • Freeze-Frame Bonus: Ice Bear's errand list:
    - Pick up Grizz's foot cream

    Grocery list for Panda:
    - Diet Cola
    - Non-fat veggie chips
    - Vegan pizza
    - Chocolate fudge cookies

    - Pick up Panda's scarves from dry cleaners

    - Buy new running shoes for Grizz

    - Shop for Grizz's forest party
  • Kick the Dog: Ice Bear literally kicks a dog when it tries to pee on his leg.
  • Long List: Ice's Bear's errand list goes from his midsection to his feet.
  • Never Smile at a Crocodile: Played with and ultimately subverted by the alligator.

  • Nobody Here but Us Statues: Chloe and Ice Bear disguise themselves as part of the tiger display to stay in the museum after it closes.
  • Rage Quit: What ultimately happens with Grizz and Panda's gaming session. Panda breaks their console, calling it rigged, and is seen in a time-out chair in the background when Grizz calls them up at the end of the day.
  • Shout-Out: The alligator is a reference to Claude, a real-life albino gator who resides at the California Academy of Sciences.
  • Shown Their Work:
    • The alligator eats the jelly sandwich Chloe used to lure it out. Real-life crocodilians are known to eat fruit.
    • The science museum is greatly based on the real-life California Academy of Sciences located in San Francisco, such as including a Tyrannosaurus skeleton at the lobby, an aquarium, a rainforest exhibit, a planetarium, and the albino alligator as a star attraction. The major difference is that the animal diorama hall has a tiger display when the real-life exhibition features only African animals.
