Part one of the Brakmar Gobbowl arc

Having escaped the infernal clutches of Rushu and his minions, the reunited Brotherhood heads for their next destination: the equally infernal city of Brakmar. Having heard that the Sacrier gobbowler Kriss Krass is in town, Yugo is determinated to meet him in person after such a long time. However, things take a turn for the worst when they find out that Kriss is facing a trial for having lost to Bonta and smearing the name of Brakmarian Gobbowl. Determinated to save his former rival, Yugo manages to get a challenge: his and Kriss' team, Brak A.C. versus the best Gobbowl team of Brakmar, the Brak'n Black, lead by the legendary and feared Masked Gobbowler...

Tropes:

  • Bar Brawl: Asking about Kriss' whereabouts in a bar causes a massive brawl the Brotherhood actually dominates. Turns out the bar's patron has nothing against brawls, but they have to pay for them in advance.
  • Berserk Button: Mentioning Kriss in Brakmar isn't a good idea, as they haven't forgotten his defeat in Bonta and aren't too proud of him.
Kid's Father: He says that when he gets big, he wants to be executed by you!
    Executioner: Aw, isn't that cute?
  • Call-Back: This trilogy is one to the previous season's Gobbowl Inferno arc.
  • Cliffhanger: The episode ends with Brak A.C. (Kriss, Yugo, Sadlygrove, "Evangelyon" and "Amalius") about to face team Brak'n Black.
  • Defeat Means Friendship: Yugo in this episode considers Kriss a friend, and the feeling is apparently mutual, as the Sacrier is surprised but happy to see him again.
  • Early-Bird Cameo: The Prince of Brakmar, who does play a small but important role later on in the season.
  • Evil Counterpart: The city of Brakmar as a whole to the city of Bonta, which was specifically designed as such by Djaul, Rushu's minion and Jiva's nemesis.
  • Gender Bender: One of the effects of the S.M.A.R.T. potions is the ability to temporarily transform the drinker into a different person, even one of the opposite gender, for as long as an hour (or less, if the deactivating word is spoken out loud). Evangelyne and Amalia uses one to join the Brak A.C. roster as "Evangelyon" and "Amalius".
  • Hanging Judge: Judge Muttonchops, though not by his own, as Brakmar's legal system actively encourages harsh punishment and make them into a show (the executioner is hailed as a celebrity).
  • He's Back!: In-Universe, the announcer of Bonta's match, Jactance, has been depressed and sullen since now because of Kriss' impending execution... but he returns to his bombastic self when he recognizes Yugo "the Runt" from Bonta.
  • Kangaroo Court: Kriss' entire trial is a farce, what with his lawyer sleeping all the time and waking up once to tell an unfunny and totally unrelated joke, the judges being against him and having a Bwork in drag impersonating Kriss' mother as a witness. Thankfully Yugo interfers.
  • The Knights Who Say "Squee!": Amalia is a big fan of the Masked Gobbowler.
  • Laser-Guided Karma: Ruel spends the entire episode keeping the money for himself and having Amalia pay for anything. When the Brak A.C. has to pay for their equipment as well, she refuses to lend him any more money and the only things left for Ruel are cheerleader articles, much to his dismay.
  • Lethal Lava Land: Brakmar is a sprawling dark metropolis over lakes of fiery magma. Before you ask, it was indeed designed by a servant of Rushu himself, probably so that he'd feel at home.
  • No Woman's Land: The city of Brakmar has incredibly severe stances against women, who aren't allowed to see trials or playing/assist to Gobbowl matches, forcing them to take S.M.A.R.T. potions (or, as shown by a background extra, fake beards) to see those events.
  • Over-the-Top Roller Coaster: The standard way to enter Brakmar, all of them over a huge abyss ending with a magma lake.
  • Punny Name: Brak A.C. is a pun on the Italian acronym for "Associazione Calcio" (Soccer Association), but in French it also sounds like "Bras Cassé", broken arm.
  • Rousing Speech: Yugo attempts to give one mixed with "The Reason You Suck" Speech to defend Kriss... and he gets laughed at. Multiple times. Poor kid...
  • Screw the Rules, I Have Money!: Part of the standard legal tier in Brakmar, where the one who can offer the largest bribe is automatically declared innocent, regardless of evidence.
  • Serious Business: Kriss Krass faces a trial followed by likely execution for the hideous crime of smearing the name of Brakmarian Gobbowl not only by joining a Bontarian team, but also by losing.
  • Shout-Out:
    • The couple of squirrels in the opening of the episode resembles Scrat and Scratette from Ice Age.
    • A hooded costumer tries to pull a Jedi Mind Trick on the waitress to make her believe he already paid his drink. She even calls him "Obi".
    • The Sram selling the S.M.A.R.T. potions bears a resemblance to Baron Samedi or, possibly, Jack Skellington.
  • Stunned Silence: In the bar, when Ruel asks about Kriss Krass. A murderous brawl follows.
  • Top-Heavy Guy: After turning into men with the S.M.A.R.T. potion, Amalia and Eva are positively ripped, especially the latter, who now towers over Sadlygrove.
  • Trial by Combat: Essentially this is what Yugo manages to bargain for Kriss: the Brak A.C. team will face Brak'n Black on the Gobbowl arena in a one-point match for Kriss' safety.
  • Worth It: Kriss doesn't show the slightest trace of shame for his defeat in Bonta, and is kinda proud of it.
  • Wretched Hive: Brakmar is what you get when you let the right-arm man of the local equivalent of Satan design and build a city.
  • You Have GOT to Be Kidding Me!: Kriss wasn't expecting a fair trial. Still, passing a Bwork in obvious drag as his own mother leaves him incredibly flabbergasted, the incredulity of his voice is palpable.
Kriss: But t-that's not my mother!
Lawyer: Did you hear that? Astonishing! This scoundrel doesn't even acknowledge his own mother!!!
[Kriss stares with a sheer WTF? look on his face]
