Recap / Voltron: Legendary Defender S8E5

Go To

"Lotor used us. He led us down a painful path, a neverending cycle of destruction and loss."
Acxa to Zethrid

Voltron reports their findings from Olkarion back to the Atlas, and note that Oriande is the epicenter of the Robeast appearances. The Paladins are lead to believe that Shiro changed their rendezvous point, but are led into a trap on a hostile planet. Forced out of their lions, the team take down a Galra drone that has been infused with Olkari technology that allows them to track their suits and bayards. Bounty hunters find them, however, and the Team falls into a network of tunnels.

Meanwhile, Acxa slowly opens up to the Atlas crew at Veronica's prodding. The communications officers realize that they have been communicating with a decoy and arrive at the planet. Keith is attacked by the leader of the pirates, who turns out to be Zethrid, bitter that Ezor left her. As Zethrid holds Keith hostage, Acxa attempts to talk her down. Veronica shoots Zethrid, but Keith catches her before she falls into lava. Later, Acxa and Ezor visit Zethrid.

Tropes:

  • Bait-and-Switch Gunshot: Zethrid appears to fire her blaster at Acxa and Shiro, only for the following gunshot to be Veronica sniping Zethrid from afar.
  • A Day in the Limelight: Acxa is given a significant subplot as she deals with leaving her past behind.
  • Eating Lunch Alone: Acxa is initially seen eating lunch by herself before Veronica invites her over to join the pilots.
  • No Social Skills: Acxa is unable to properly socialize with the Atlas pilots due to her ruthless Galra background.
Leifsdottir: It appears that the mood at this table has become rather awkward... most likely due to your Galra lineage.
  • Out-of-Character Alert: Veronica and Acxa become suspicious of "Keith"'s transmissions because of his formal way of speaking. Not to mention that he claims Lance is the one helping with repairs.
  • Robo Cam: The pilots are briefly seen through the point of view of the drone attacking them as it switches to different "modes" of detection.
