Recap / Unreal I The Trench

Go To

A sizable crack in the rear wall of the amphitheatre leads Prisoner 849 through a small cave exiting into a massive fault created by the crashing Interstellar Science Vessel Kran.

The Trench is littered with debris of:

  • Boss Rush: Just after dealing with one Titan in the previous level the developers decided to dump three of 'em on you. At least they don't attack you all at once. However ... see Skippable Boss below.
  • Drone of Dread: This level's soundtrack is ocassionally reduced to this.
  • Highly Visible Landmark: The Sunspire makes its appeareance in this level for the first time as part of the skybox.
  • Mood Whiplash: Musical version. Up until now the soundtrack was either dynamic and action-packed or sentimental. However this level's music degrades to pure horror at times as its Recurring Riff is a Drone of Dread.
  • Skippable Boss: If you got the invisibility item in the previous level and saved it for the ocassion you can totally ditch fighting those Titans as well as any other enemies and head straight for the downed spacecraft. Move quickly though - the invisibility doesn't last forever.
  • Unusually Uninteresting Sight: Mook version. If you use the invisibility to Dungeon Bypass the level the Skaarj in front of the ship door won't react to it opening a slightest bitnote . Considering that the door opens only if the ship's sensor picks up a sign of human activity it certainly says a lot about that Skaarj's IQ.
