Venus’ Dream
Venus goes to achieve her dream of being famous when she learns about a playwriting competition - the winner going to perform on Broadway.
"Venus’ Dream" contains examples of:
- Berserk Button: Venus unleashes anger when Cancer calls her a “doll”. She would later use this as a defense against Taurus in “Tarri-fic Chocolate!”
- Crocodile Tears: Cancer pretends to cry after Venus calls him a “crab-caked buffoon”.
- Dastardly Whiplash: Cancer shows signs of this including his body shape and his sneaky personality.
- Dick Dastardly Stops to Cheat: Cancer is unable to continue his own play that he decided to sabotage Venus’ play instead by secretly copying it over as his work. This is shown offscreen, however.
- Laser-Guided Karma: Cancer gets his rightful punishment by being beaten up by Pluto at the end.
- No-Holds-Barred Beatdown: Pluto holds no hesitation to beat up Cancer after he's exposed as a fraud.
- Ocular Gushers: Once again, Mars cries like this when Venus is accused of plagiarizing. Mercury uses a bucket to fill up her tears.Mercury: If you think this is bad, I had to use this bucket for my job at Chunk E. Cheddar.
- Recycled Animation: Mars’ crying animation was taken directly from the previous episode.
- Retcon: It is apparent that the episode does not impact the rest of the series as Venus returns in later episodes with no mention of her play.
- Shout-Out: Lauren Faust’s Lolli Pop
character appears as a judge, as she was created for another failed pitch known as Lolli Pop’s Life Sucks (conjectural name). - Stalker Without a Crush: In the deleted scene, Cancer spies on Venus through the window to check on her playwriting. It got cut due to looking unintentionally creepy.
- Suck E. Cheese's: Mercury mentions working a job at “Chunk E. Cheddar”.
- What Happened to the Mouse?: Ceres is the one to introduce Venus to the playwriting competition, but other than a gag where her glasses get stolen, she does not help Venus on the actual project nor appear for the rest of the episode.
