Berta's youngest daughter Naomi shows up at the Harper residence to help her mother clean, pregnant to the point of popping. Alan reveals a fetish for pregnant women, and begins awkwardly 'courting' her. Charlie goes to help Berta confront the man who impregnated her daughter.

- Motor Mouth: Twice, someone walks in on Alan and Naomi when Alan is touching her pregnant belly, and demands to know what's going on. Both times, Alan quickly explains the entire situation, speaking at a thousand miles a minute. In fairness, both times he describes the situation honestly, and wasn't actually doing anything untoward (although Judith knows about his fetish and immediately gets what he's up to).
- Rich in Dollars, Poor in Sense: Charlie doesn't know what a swap meet is, and when he goes to one with Berta is blown away by how good the deals are, apparently unaware of how low quality the goods likely are.
- Screaming Birth: Naomi goes into labor at Charlie's house, Berta and Charlie returning just in time to help deliver the baby right in Charlie's living room.
- Tough Love: Berta makes Naomi do manual labor like scrubbing toilets despite being on the verge of giving birth because she wants to instill responsibility into her, as she's about to become a single mother and has no job skills.
- Why Couldn't You Be Different?: Of all her children, Berta felt that Naomi had the best chance of being successful in life. Seeing her get knocked up by a married man and get fired from her job for stealing office supplies, likely relegating her to a life no better than anyone else in Berta's family, breaks her heart.
