Recap / Transformers G 1 Aerial Assault

Go To

The Aerialbots investigate a series of plane thefts occurring in the Middle East. Slingshot and Skydive go undercover to catch the smugglers, but end up getting salvaged for parts. The two disassembled Aerialbots team up with a young boy named Hassan to get their stolen parts back and stop the Deecepticons from assembling an army of drone jets.

Tropes:

  • All There in the Manual: The episode itself doesn't say what country it takes place in, but The AllSpark Almanac II published in 2010 reveals the episode takes place in Iran.
  • Hobbling the Giant: Slingshot launches a grappling hook around Bruticus's legs to trip him up, which buys the Aerialbots enough time to combine into Superion.
  • King Incognito: The end of the episode reveals that Hassan is actually the recently deposed Prince Jumal. Jumal went into hiding and disguised himself as a street urchin so he could spy on Ali's and find a way to reclaim his throne.
  • Our Gryphons Are Different: For whatever reason, Megatron built a giant mechanical griffin to act as a fortress while the Decepticons occupied Prince Jumal's palace. It doesn't really play into his scheme to create an army of drone jets and gets taken out rather easily by Superion.
  • Prehensile Hair: The giant mechanical griffin apparently has mechanical prehensile hair, as it ensnares Slingshot within its mane.
  • Royals Who Actually Do Something: After being deposed by Ali, Prince Jumal went undercover as a street urchin and spied on his gang's plan smuggling operation. He actively helps the Aerialbots when they get caught up in Ali's scheme and helps put them back together so they can fight off the Decepticons.
