The Autobots and Decepticons find a set of ruins that transports them back in time to the Middle Ages. Both sides are low on energy and find themselves embroiled in a feud between two neighbouring lords. Starscream takes over the castle of Sir Wigend of Blackthorn and plans to conquer the ancient realms for himself.

- Bird-Poop Gag: A bird poops on Starscream's head as the Decepticons discuss how the need to find more potassium nitrate for their gunpowder, which gives Starscream the idea to harvest bird droppings. He orders Rumble to collect it, and he later returns to the castle absolutely caked in bird crap while carrying a huge barrel full of the stuff.Rumble: I got your stupid potassium nitrate!
- Clarke's Third Law: Beorht uses a pouch full of "Dragon's Bane" to scare away the dragon guarding the Dragon Mound. After Beorht lists off the ingredients, Hoist realizes that Dragon's Bane is actually just ordinary gunpowder.
- Damsel in Distress: Starscream kidnaps Nimue and holds her hostage unless Sir Aethling surrenders his realm to him. Sir Wigend betrays Starscream and rescues her, while Spike and the Autobots help Sir Aethling's army lay seige to the castle.
- Did Not Get the Girl: Spike develops a crush on Nimue and tries to live up to the "champion" title she gave him by rescuing her. However, Sir Wigend already saved her by the time he gets there and the two have fallen in love with each other.
- The Glomp: Starscream is so excited to return to the present by the end that he actually tackles Megatron to the ground and hugs him, much to Megatron's anger.Starscream: What's the matter? Aren't you glad to see us?
[Megatron screams in rage] - Magic Versus Science: Starscream uses scientific methods to harness energy while stuck in the sixth century, while Beorht casts a spell that summons lightning to re-energize the Autobots during the final battle.
- Never Trust a Title: King Arthur is Sir-Not-Appearing-In-This-Episode, as the story has no connections to Arthurian lore aside from the medieval setting. The closest is Nimue, who is named after a character from Arthurian legend, but bares no similarities to her aside from that.

- Time Travel Episode: The Autobots and Decepticons are transported back in time to the year 543 AD thanks to a set of magic runes, and try to keep themselves functional as they energy supplies run low.
- Writers Cannot Do Math: The characters time travel back in time to the year 543 AD, and Starscream claims they have 1451 years before they have to worry about the Autobots or Megatron. However, the episode aired in 1985, which would be 1442 years from 543. Starscream's math would put the events of the present day in 1994.
