Recap / Total Drama: "Zeek and Ye Shall Find"

Go To

It's the 100th episode and Chris' special challenge for the contestants is sidelined when Ezekiel kidnaps him, forcing a panicked Chef to change the challenge to the campers finding him.

Tropes:

  • Accidental Kiss: Courtney and Scott accidentally kiss when Courtney trips and falls atop Scott. Because there already was mutual attraction brewing, it leads to them going steady.
  • All of the Other Reindeer: Gwen finds herself feeling like the odd girl out, as a result of Courtney and Scott pairing up, Alejandro wanting to go solo, and Cameron distrusting her as a result of Mal's manipulation. This is lessened, though, when she later encounters Zoey alone in the tunnel.
  • And This Is for...: Cameron offers himself up as a distraction for Ezekiel to give Gwen a chance to grab the bazooka. With his acid spit, Ezekiel burries Cameron beneath rubble from the cave's ceiling, but Gwen gets her hands on the weapon. As she fires at Ezekiel, she tells him that she's avenging Cameron.
  • Badass Boast: Mal gets one after Cameron is eliminated due to injuries.
Mal: "Oh, Mike's gone. I'm Mal, and I let you fall. So long, sucker." (Evil Laugh)
  • Bag of Kidnapping: While Chris is preparing the 100th episode celebration challenge, Ezekiel comes up from behind him, throws a bag over him, and abducts him to the mines to put him through a slow demise. Chris is oblivious to the danger he is in until the bag is removed and he sees it's Ezekiel who captured him and not Chef, whom he thought was pulling one over on him.
  • Bandage Mummy: Cameron gets horribly injured, which causes his elimination.
  • Batman Gambit: Mal schemes to drive a wedge between Courtney and Scott. He has Cameron kiss Courtney in front of Scott and claim she initiated it, being certain that it will make Scott furious at her for supposedly cheating on him. It works.
  • Blatant Lies: Once safe, Chris insists in the confessional that he absolutely was not afraid of Ezekiel and that he was only faking for the camera.
  • Career-Ending Injury: More like qualification ending injury, but the injuries Cameron gets from Ezekiel leaves him so injured he can't continue in the game.
  • Continuity Nod:
    • The mines that were Ezekiel's home in the last season are once again explored by the contestants.
    • Gwen's claustrophobia returns here as well.
  • Cowardly Lion: Gwen for the length of the episode due to her extreme fear of being buried alive and being underground in general. While she is a blubbering wreck at first, Zoey is able to calm her down (momentarily anyway) and she works with Cameron to save Chris.
  • Crowd Surfing: In the exclusive clip, Ezekiel digs his way into the Fun Zone and befriends the mutants with a luxurious cake. The mutants lift him and the cake up in a celebratory welcome.
  • Distressed Dude: Chris, after Ezekiel kidnaps him at the start of the episode.
  • Epunymous Title: The title is a pun on "Seek and ye shall find." Zeke's name spelling is even altered for the title to make the pun work better.
  • Final Girl: Gwen once again stops the villain in a horror-themed challenge, just like she did in "Hook, Line, and Screamer".
  • Forceful Kiss: More by preventing her a chance to resist than true force, Cameron kisses Courtney. He is cajoled into doing this by Mal, who believes he and Cameron need a third ally and Scott's a good pick. But to get Scott on their side, they need to destroy the budding romance between him and Courtney. Hence, upon kissing Courtney, Mal and Cameron play it off that she kissed Cameron and is two-timing both Scott and Cameron.
  • Heroic BSoD: Cameron, who feels he can't trust anyone after Mal's attempt to eliminate him last episode. Mal's constant attempts to use Cameron as a pawn only make things worse.
  • Heroic Sacrifice: Cameron, who willingly uses himself as bait so Gwen can rescue Chris after shunning her earlier.
  • Idiot Ball: Cameron gets hit by it big time, and it gets him eliminated.
  • Ineffectual Loner: Alejandro rebuffed Gwen's efforts to team-up, as only one person can have the perks. When he ends up getting stuck and needs help, he seriously reconsiders this.
  • I Never Said It Was Poison: After Mal leaves Cameron hanging from a ledge, Alejandro later comes up and offers to rescue him, but Cameron declines. When Alejandro and Mal reunite (alongside others), Alejandro explains Cameron's absence, where Mal then accuses Alejandro of "leaving [Cameron] hanging there." However, as Alejandro points out in his Confession Cam, he never said Cameron was hanging.
  • Iris Out: In the exclusive clip, Ezekiel digs his way into the Fun Zone and befriends the mutants with a luxurious cake. After all he's been put through since World Tour, Zeke now has a place where he's at peace. In the clips final seconds, the screen goes black except for a heart-shaped cut-out around Zeke's broadly smiling face. After a pause, the heart shrinks to leave a full black screen.
  • It's All About Me: Chris closes out the episode by saying that he didn't get hurt and that that's what's important.
  • Jerkass Has a Point: Chris chastises Chef for taking the time to enjoy a lot of ice cream rather than performing a rescue.
  • Kick the Dog: Mal revealing himself to Cameron shortly before he's flushed.
  • Laser-Guided Karma: Given all the grief Courtney gave Gwen over the love triangle in World Tour, seeing Mal manage to destroy her relationship with Scott by invoking a similar love triangle situation can be seen as karma catching up to her.
  • Leonine Contract: Chef demands the campers go rescue Chris, saying the show will otherwise be cancelled if anything happens to him and no one will get the million dollars. However, since this is a feral Ezekiel, the campers will only do it in exchange for the rescuer getting major perks: a permanent stay in the spa, immunity for the next elimination ceremony, and getting to pick who spends the night on Boney Island next. Chef agrees and tells them to get going.
  • Let Us Never Speak of This Again: How Chris sums up this "challenge" during the campfire ceremony: "Gwen wins our never-to-be-repeated-or-spoke-of-again challenge!"
  • Literary Allusion Title: The title is a play on the Biblical verses of Matthew 7:7-8, which contains the line "Seek, and ye shall find".
  • Mistaken for Cheating: Cameron (at Mal's suggestion) kisses Courtney shortly after a collision, then claims that she kissed him, tricking Scott into thinking his new girlfriend cheated on him.
  • Non-Gameplay Elimination: Cameron is medically evacuated as a result of fighting Ezekiel, as stalactites crashed onto on him.
  • Noodle Implements: Chris' planned but cancelled challenge involved rhinos, fire, poison, formaldehyde and more.
  • Noodle Incident: A prisoner of Ezekiel and watching Courtney and Scott argue, Zoey remarks this still isn't the worst party she's ever been to.
  • The Only One I Trust: Cameron makes the mistake of choosing Mal (while under the guise of Mike, of course) while shutting out everybody else, since "Mike" told him that everybody else was mocking Cameron behind his back.
  • Out-Gambitted: Mal for the first time this season. Alejandro, upon reviewing a tape made of all of the things Mal did throughout the season left at the winner's lodge, sees Mal prepared to frame Alejandro for the vote rigging Mal himself did last episode by leaving the extra votes for Cameron under his pillow. Alejandro responds to this by sneaking in and switching the photos to Mal's own bunk, thus revealing the true culprit.
Alejandro: Anything you can do, I can do better.
  • Post-Stress Overeating: Chef is so stressed about Chris being kidnapped that he gouges himself on ice cream. He doesn't go rescue Chris until he runs out of ice cream.
  • Power of Trust: With the vote rigged to unanimously boot him, Cameron worries he can't trust anyone. Mal convinces Cameron to trust him and Zoey, but also to distrust the others. Gwen saving him later on convinces him to trust her.
  • Pyrrhic Victory: Gwen may have won the challenge and permanent residency in the McLean Spa Hotel, but she has to share it with Chris because of what happened last episode. Not only that but she won because of Cameron's Heroic Sacrifice.
  • Relationship Sabotage: Mal believes that he and Cameron need a third ally and Scott's a good pick. But to get Scott on their side, they need to destroy the budding romance between him and Courtney. Mal therefore cajoles Cameron into kissing Courtney and the two make it look like Courtney was the one to initiate it, aiming to get Scott on their side by making him believe that Courtney was two-timing him as much as she was Cameron. It doesn't work out entirely as planned, as Scott and Courtney work through it, but Mal does manage to get his hooks in Scott.
  • Roaring Rampage of Revenge: Ezekiel hunts down and tries to viciously kill Chris, Chef, and to a lesser extent the other contestants.
  • Sadist: Leaving Cameron dangling, Mal gleefully muses that he'll struggle to hang on for about five minutes before finally losing his grip and falling to his death.
  • Screw This, I'm Outta Here: All alone in the dark, cramp tunnels, Gwen got to the point where she was willing to forget about Chris and save herself. Then she found Cameron.
  • Series Continuity Error:
    • Chris mentions that he threw Ezekiel into the volcano in "Hawaiian Punch", when in actuality Ezekiel fell in on his own terms accidentally and his altercation with Chris only happened in the ending where Alejandro wins.
    • In addition, Chris was shown tied upside down with his hair dangling down yet it was revealed in the “Action” finale that Chris was bald and that his hair was a toupee, which if it was still the case, the toupee would have fallen off in this situation.
  • Spanner in the Works: Chris and Duncan to Mal. Duncan blowing up the supposed cottage in the last episode means Chris needs a place to stay, so he crashes at the spa with Alejandro. An annoyed Alejandro wanders off for some privacy, stumbling upon the monitor room and learning about Mal's attempt to frame him.
  • Too Dumb to Live: Suspended over the waste, Chris wonders what he did to offend Ezekiel. He casually rattles off a host of indignities, failing to notice that that's just making his already dangerous captor angrier and angrier. It's at that point Zeke unveils how he intends to kill Chris.
  • Troll: Mal fakes noises of Ezekiel returning just to freak out Chris.
  • Troubled Fetal Position: The taphophobic Gwen is stuck in a cave system with only Zoey as company. She hears the feral voice of Ezekiel in the distance and turns around for a second, only to find Zoey missing thereafter. In the confessional, she's lying down in the fetal position while making high-pitched stress noises. Moments later, Chef finally manages to get the camera system back online so he can see what Chris and the campers are going through inside the cave. Once he spots Chris suspended over acid, he mimics Gwen's fetal position.
  • Unwilling Suspension: Ezekiel abducts Chris and hangs him upside-down from the mine ceiling above a vat of toxic waste. Despite the danger, Christ taunts his captor until Ezekiel sics two rats on the rope holding Chris up. Only just before the rope would be gnawed through does Chef enter the scene and chase the rats away, but it takes a fight with Ezekiel before Chris can be freed.
  • Vertical Kidnapping: Zeke captures Alejandro by emerging from the cave's ceiling, grabbing his hair, and pulling him up and out of view.

Zeke Captures Chris

Only Chris McLean would taunt someone that's feral, pissed-off, and has him at their mercy (by recapping EXACTLY why that all is no less).

How well does it match the trope?
