Recap / Total Drama: "The Very Last Episode, Really!"

Go To

It's the final battle of the season, as Owen and Gwen are pit against each other in one final contest.

Tropes:

  • All-Loving Hero: Owen pretty much confirms this after thinking that Heather is simply happy for him and Gwen to be in the finale.
Gwen: Have you ever had a bad thought about anybody?
    (Owen shrugs)
  • Animal Reaction Shot: After the very loud noises coming from Owen sliding down the flagpole, A moose and a beaver are seen reacting in slight confusing as to what the sound is.
  • Answer Cut: When Gwen wonders why the pole is so slippery, we see Heather with a used stick of butter winking at the camera.
  • Back for the Finale: In what would become a tradition for several more season finales, every single eliminated camper of the season returns to show their support for Owen and Gwen.
  • Big Eater: Both hurts Owen, and in his ending, helps him. Eating the cupcake Heather originally made for Gwen (which was laced with laxative) nearly causes him to lose... but his allies fanning the smell of brownies towards him causes him to run at them.
  • Blowing a Raspberry: Heather is one of Owen's greatest supporters during the finale. When he announces that if he wins he'll throw a huge party and everyone is invited, over half of Gwen's supporters become Owen's supporters. Heather enthusiastically blows a raspberry towards Gwen.
  • Bookends: In "Not So happy Campers - Part 1", Cody attempts to greet Eva by giving her a high-five, but she coldly ignores him and drops a bag filled with dumbbells on his foot. In Gwen's ending, Eva and Cody high-five in celebration of Gwen's victory, although Eva's unchecked strength knocks over Cody.
  • Call-Back:
    • From "Not So Happy Campers Part 2":
      • Justin once again has an affect on the animals getting distracted by his shirtless body.
      • Gwen's "I'm gonna die now, I'm gonna freaking die", is almost identical to Owen's line before he jumped off the cliff.
      • Chris safety test on the sharks involve getting one sorry person to jump into the water, declaring it safe despite the fact that it isn't.
      • Gwen is also forced to wear a chicken hat similar to the one that DJ, Courtney and Beth wore for not jumping.
    • As for other episodes, Owen racing to the finish after he smells baked goods is identical to what he did in "Are We There Yeti?", though it's only identical in Gwen's ending, as it's successful in Owen's ending.
  • Contrived Coincidence: Chris, just so happens to have an industrial-sized fan in his trailer, which is lampshaded by Geoff.
Chris: Do you think I get this wind-blown look naturally?
  • Crush Blush: As the twenty eliminated campers return, Gwen locks eyes with Trent and quickly looks at the ground when she starts blushing. Trent walks by with a warm smile, prompting Gwen to look back up and bite her lip.
  • Darkhorse Victory: In the US and Canadian endings, Owen wins despite the US ads saying he probably wouldn't.
  • Determinator: Trent, who goes along with Gwen the entire challenge, even carrying a rock throughout the second part.
  • Death from Above: The finalists have to carry eagle eggs across a gorge of shark-infested waters while the angry eagle parents dive bomb them to get them back.
  • Delicious Distraction: The brownies Izzy and Lindsay made were this to Owen in Gwen's ending, while they served as motivation in his ending.
  • Distracted by the Sexy: In an attempt to help Owen beat Gwen in the cliff crossing portion of the finale, Heather brings over supermodel Justin and takes off his shirt. His hotness does distract Gwen, but Owen, who has been lusting after Justin ever since he came to the island, is even more distracted.
  • Dogged Nice Guy: Trent, despite the Heather incident not being his fault and Gwen knowing this, spends the entire episode trying to win her back. It works (see below).
  • Earn Your Happy Ending: The campers as a whole, getting a party from Owen in the US and UK endings and giving Chris and Chef a dunk in the lake after months of torment by them. Gwen, after a difficult time at camp, ends up getting the guy while Trent, after spending an whole episode working at it, gets Gwen. Granted all of this is until the special, but it's still a nice way to wrap the season... but that's not how it ends.
  • Hoist by Her Own Petard: Heather tries to invoke a Potty Emergency on Gwen with a laxative-laced cupcake in order to sabotage her chances of winning. However, Gwen gave the cupcake to Owen, who subsequently stinks up the outhouse confessional. Heather then has to endure Owen's stink after Leshawna locks her inside the outhouse.
  • I Gave My Word: Just as she promised in "I Triple Dog Dare You", Gwen intends on giving half of her winnings to Owen should she win the race.
  • Inelegant Blubbering: Lindsay cries when Gwen ends up winning in the alternate ending.
  • Jerkass Ball: Gwen, in her "Reason You Suck" Speech, calling out over half of her fellow campers. In particular, she called out Trent, whom she had forgiven for Heather's manipulation, Lindsay, who indirectly caused Heather's defeat one episode ago and Geoff, who befriended her.
  • Laser-Guided Karma:
    • Heather attempts to sabotage Gwen with a laxative-laced cupcake, which Gwen gave to Owen. After Heather complains about losing her wig and how the others can't do anything right, Leshawna drags Heather to the outhouse confessional, barricading her inside after Owen had relieved himself in it.
    • After putting the contestants through hell for the entire season, Chris gets tossed into the lake by Owen, Geoff and Duncan.
Chef: [laughing] I've been wanting to do that all season. [to Chris] What do you think of that pretty boy!?
  • Multiple Endings: There are two endings: one where Owen wins, and one where Gwen wins.
  • Overly Long Gag: Owen slides down his flagpole very slowly, and very loudly.
  • Over-the-Shoulder Carry: In both versions, Trent picks up Gwen and holds her over his shoulder after the winner has been decided. If Gwen loses, he does it to cheer her up and playfully get the promise of a date out of her. If Gwen wins, he does it to congratulate her on her victory.
  • Potty Emergency: Heather attempts to invoke this by giving Gwen a laxative filled cupcake under the guise they were from Trent. Unfortunately for her, Owen eats it instead, and Heather has to endure his stank after Leshawna barricades her inside the outhouse confessional
  • The Power of Friendship: How Owen wins in his ending: the many friends he made during his stay on the island all work together to help him with the challenges and ultimately beat Gwen to the finish line.
  • "The Reason You Suck" Speech: In Gwen's confessional before the final challenge of the season, she calls out almost half of the cast for their flaws.
  • Series Continuity Error:
    • Apparently the writers forgot that Gwen found out Heather had set Trent up.
    • Also the five nice people Gwen met don't include Geoff, despite their friendship in "Trial by Tri-Armed Triathlon".
  • Shirtless Scene:
    • Trent uses his shirt to wipe the butter off the pole for Gwen.
    • This also happens with Justin (instigated by Heather) to distract Gwen. See Distracted by the Sexy above.
  • Shout-Out:
    • Owen mentions Gordie Howe, a retired professional hockey player and one of the most famous players after Wayne Gretzky.
    • Duncan calls Trent "Elvis" during the shark part of the challenge.
