Tropes featured in this episode:

  • Adam Smith Hates Your Guts: One Gotham City shopkeeper marks his prices up to five times what they were due to supplies being scarce.
  • All Your Base Are Belong to Us: Namedropped by Jason when he mocks Dick for failing to stop him and Scarecrow from taking over Wayne Manor.
  • Contrived Coincidence: Donna Troy just happens to run into Tim Drake on the streets of Gotham City.
  • Empire with a Dark Secret: Because Kory wasn't born with pyrokinesis, she was unfit to inherit the throne of Tamaran, but her parents insisted that she would inherit the throne by any means, and chose to transfer her younger sister's powers to her. All this time, the kingdom of Tamaran had been sustained through a lie.
  • Gutted Like a Fish: The poor deliveryman gets gutted by Scarecrow, with his innards being splattered all over the table.
  • Healing Factor: Kory's real power enables her to recover from her gunshot wound.
  • My Significance Sense Is Tingling: Rachel can sense Dick being shot and kicked around from miles away.
  • Percussive Prevention: Variation. Dick blows kryptonite powder to render Conner and Krypto unconscious so they cannot interfere with his confrontation with Jason.
  • Shout-Out:
  • Tomato in the Mirror: Through her visions, Kory finds out that her pyrokinetic powers weren't actually hers, but Blackfire's. In fact, Kory was actually born with a different power, but the law of Tamaran dictated that only those with pyrokinesis could inherit the throne, so her parents chose to transfer Blackfire's power to Starfire, allowing the latter to become the beloved princess while condemning Blackfire into a life of torment.
  • Villain with Good Publicity: The population of Gotham praise Red Hood thanks to Scarecrow's propaganda. At the end, they happily beat up Dick while chanting Red Hood's name, thinking that it will please him.
