Recap / Tiny Toon Adventures S 1 E 4 Test Stressed

Go To

The fourth episode of the first season of Tiny Toon Adventures.

Plucky, Furrball, and Fowlmouth go through the tests of Cartoon Math, Mouse Catching, and Love, respectively.

Short One: "Never Too Late To Loon"

When Plucky forgets to study for a math test, he tries to convince Shirley to channel Albert Einstein into his brain. At first, Shirley refuses, but she eventually gives in. Unfortunately, Plucky fails the math test anyway because (perhaps intentionally) she forgot to tell him that Einstein flunked math when he was a kid, too.

Short Two: "Li'l Sneezer"

Sylvester assigns Furrball to catch a mouse so he can get his picture in the Hall of Cartoon Pussycats. When Furrball hears that Mr. and Mrs. Mouse need a babysitter for their son, he disguises himself as a babysitter and volunteers. Unfortunately for him, the mouse is Li'l Sneezer, a talkative baby mouse who gives the most powerful sneezes.

Short Three: "To Bleep or Not to Bleep"

Fowlmouth is a young rooster who wishes to ask Shirley to the dance on Saturday. Unfortunately, his swearing habit drives her away. Buster decides to help cure Fowlmouth of his swearing habit. When the Acme Behavior Modification System is unable to cure Fowlmouth of his habit, Buster is about to give up on him, when they pass by three babies playing in a sandbox. Buster is surprised when Fowlmouth doesn't swear once, and finds out that Fowlmouth refuses to swear in front of small children. He uses it to his advantage, as he carries the three babies around with him and pull them out in case Fowlmouth is about to swear again. After proving to Shirley that he can lead her to her house without swearing, Fowlmouth finds out that Shirley already promised Plucky that she'd go to the dance with him. Just when it seems that Fowlmouth is about to let out the biggest curse ever, he merely shrugs it off and thanks Buster for helping him. Unfortunately, Buster ends up picking up Fowlmouth's swearing habit and becoming a victim of the Acme Behavior Modification System.

This episode provides examples of:

Overall:

Never Too Late To Loon:

  • Anvil on Head: Plucky becomes the victim of this when Buster describes the math test to him.
  • Balloonacy: Buster takes to the sky on a balloon when he finds out he overslept and is determined to make it to Acme Looniversity on time.
  • Disney Acid Sequence: Plucky has one that's a parody of the Pink Elephants on Parade sequence from Dumbo when Shirley channels Einstein into his brain.
  • Dunce Cap: Plucky is forced to wear this when he is in detention for failing the math test.
  • Early-Bird Cameo: Fifi makes a brief appearance near the end of the short sitting next to a tree reading.
  • Foreshadowing: After having Einstein channeled into his mind, he recites some nonsensical equation. This may be the first hint that having Einstein's brain may not have made him better at math.

Li'l Sneezer:

  • Abnormal Allergy: Besides the common allergy of cats, Sneezer is also revealed to be allergic to olives and anchovies.
  • Babysitting Episode: Furrball disguises himself as a babysitter and volunteers himself to babysit Sneezer while Mr. and Mrs. Mouse see a movie.
  • Bait-and-Switch: Just when it seems that Sneezer is about to give another powerful sneeze when the pollen from the goldenrods he tries to give Furrball tickles his nose, it turns out to be a regular, non-lethal one.
  • Balloon Belly: Happens to Furrball after he eats Sneezer. Sneezer's sneeze inflates him and causes him to deflate across the room.
  • Disguised in Drag: Furrball disguises himself as a female babysitter as part of his plan to catch Sneezer.
  • Motor Mouth: Sneezer, when he's not sneezing.
  • Screw This, I'm Outta Here: Furrball, when it seems that Sneezer is about to sneeze powerfully again after offering him a bouquet of goldenrods.
  • Shout-Out:
    • The famous cartoon cats that Sylvester shows Furrball include Helix, Garfunkel, and Tom Injury.
    • When Furrball dresses Sneezer up in a sandwich, Sneezer mentions that he saw The Wizard of Oz and is afraid of The Wicked Witch of the West.
  • Swallowed Whole: Furrball does this to Sneezer, and later regrets doing so.

To Bleep or Not To Bleep:

  • Bait-and-Switch: Just when it seems that Fowlmouth is about to let out the biggest curse ever, he merely says, "Rats. Oh, well. Maybe next time." and thanks Buster for helping him.
  • Bully Bulldog: The bulldog that Shirley and Fowlmouth pass by on their way to Shirley's house. When he bites Fowlmouth, Buster dresses him as a baby to keep Fowlmouth from swearing.
  • A Day in the Limelight: For Fowlmouth.
  • Didn't Think This Through: Neither Buster nor Fowlmouth counted on the fact that Shirley promised Plucky that she'd go to the dance with him.
  • Gosh Dang It to Heck!: When Fowlmouth passes by the three babies in the sandbox, he says euphamisms like "Golly Gosh" and "For Heaven's Sake!".
  • Here We Go Again!: After spending so much time trying to cure Fowlmouth of his swearing habit, Buster ends up swearing and having to suffer the consequences of the Acme Behavior Modification System.
  • If I Had a Nickel...: When Fowlmouth has a swearing fit after spilling milk on himself.
"I mean, if I had a nickel for every (bleeped expletive) time I spilled something on my clothes, I'd be a rich (bleeped expletive) guy."
  • Meaningful Name: Fowlmouth is a rooster who has been described by Buster as "swearing so much, his beak has been declared a toxic waste dump".
  • Not in Front of the Kid: When Buster finds out that Fowlmouth refuses to swear in the presence of small children, he carries the three babies they passed by earlier so he can pull them out when it seems that Fowlmouth is about to swear.
  • Pie in the Face: Fowlmouth, and later Buster, become the victims of this thanks to the Acme Behavior Modification Machine.
  • Screams Like a Little Girl: A burly lunch cook when Fowlmouth curses.
  • Screw This, I'm Outta Here: When it seems like Fowlmouth is going to let out the biggest curse ever, the three babies cry and run away.
  • Shout-Out: This short's title is a reference to William Shakespeare's famous line, "To Be or Not to Be".
  • Sir Swears-a-Lot: Fowlmouth, when young children aren't present.
  • Swear Word Plot: This short involves Buster helping Fowlmouth kick his swearing habit so he can go on a date with Shirley.
