A new engine with a crane on his boiler called Harvey has arrived. But before the Fat Controller keeps him, he wants to see Harvey demonstrate his worth to the Railway Board. But the other engines do not like him for his looks, and are very rude to him in the sheds. Harvey is upset by this, but Thomas reassures him that the engines just need to take time to adjust to him. The next day, Harvey still feels discomforted and tells the Fat Controller that he does not think he should have come to Sodor in the first place. The Fat Controller replies by saying that him being different that is what makes him special.

Meanwhile, Percy's trucks get out of control and derail at Bulgy's Bridge, blocking the road. Bertie is taking the Railway Board to the demonstration, but cannot get past the derailed trucks. The Fat Controller calls for Harvey who soon arrives to help, coincidentally creating a demonstration for the Railway Board. Harvey sorts out the accident scene so well, that the Board allows him to stay. Harvey is delighted, and even more when that night at the sheds all the other engines agree he is really useful, and soon he is friends with all of them.

Tropes featured in the episode:

  • All of the Other Reindeer: All the steam engines (except Thomas) towards Harvey. Thankfully, they all became respectful of him at the end after helping out with Percy's accident.
  • An Aesop: Even though you’re different, you can still do special things.
  • Chilly Reception: Harvey receives this from the other engines except for Thomas. They warmed up to him after proving his worth.
  • Dislikes the New Guy: The other engines were resentful toward Harvey at first due to his differences; Thomas was the only one who accepted him.
  • Earn Your Happy Ending: At first, Harvey is shunned by the other engines, except for Thomas, due to looking strange. When Percy and the Troublesome Trucks derail, Harvey is called upon to clear the mess so the Gentleman of the Railway Board can get to their demonstration. The Gentlemen witness Harvey cleaning up the mess and are impressed with him, and Harvey receives praise from the engines for saving Percy.
  • Easily Forgiven: Despite being upset over his Chilly Reception, Harvey holds no hard feelings to the other engines after they change their mind.
  • Establishing Character Moment: Harvey uses his crane to put back Percy and the trucks on the rails from the road.
  • Ironic Echo: While the engines are resenting Harvey, Percy’s response is, “He’s not taking my mail!”. After the engines warm up toward him in the end, he says the exact opposite.
  • Jerkass Ball: While it's expected of Gordon, Henry, and James to look down on a newcomer, nice engines such as Edward and Percy are also among the engines who looked down on him for his different features.
  • Laser-Guided Karma: Percy, who earlier was scornful towards Harvey, pretty much received this when the troublesome trucks derailed off of Bulgy's bridge and blocking the road, requiring Harvey lift him back on the rails.
  • Nice Guy/Only Friend: Thomas was the only engine who was nice to Harvey unlike the other engines, including Edward and Percy, which says a lot.
  • Saying Sound Effects Out Loud:
Bertie: Like how Thomas and I have a race? Vroom-vroom!
  • What the Hell, Hero?: While he was glad Percy was okay, Bertie still calls him out for the blockage of the road.
  • You Are Better Than You Think You Are: The Fat Controller lets Harvey know about this in spite of the other engines' mistreatment.
