Diesel is always bumping into the other engines and finds it very funny. It is his way of saying hello, but none of the other engines find it funny at all.

One day at Arlesburgh, Diesel bumps into Daisy while she is getting ready for refuelling. Daisy crossly tells Diesel that the bumping could be bad for her swerves, but Diesel takes no notice.

Out on the branch line, Daisy's springs give way and she ends up slanting to one side. She carries on to the next station to let her passengers off before heading to the Dieselworks. Meanwhile, Diesel bumps into Thomas before noticing Daisy pass by on Judy and Jerome's flatbed. Thomas wonders what happened to Daisy, but Diesel thinks Thomas is about to blame him for Daisy's accident, and hurries away.

At the Dieselworks, the workers cannot find the required parts to fix Daisy, and the rumours soon spreads that Daisy might have to be scrapped. Mavis tells Arry and Bert, and they tell Diesel, but he again thinks that they are blaming him. Later at a level crossing, Paxton also tries to tell Diesel about the rumours, but this time Diesel has had enough.

That night, Diesel comes to see Daisy at the Dieselworks. Thinking she is asleep, he apologises for bumping into her, and tells her that he only treats the other engines badly because they treat him the same way.

The following morning, Percy arrives with Daisy's new springs, and the workers fix her in no time. As she leaves for work, she spots Diesel. She tells him that if he wants the other engines to be friends with him, he has to change his ways.

So that's just what Diesel does. Whenever he sees Daisy and Ryan on the Arlesburgh branch line, he wishes them a good morning and no longer bumps into them.

This episode contains examples of:

  • Attack Hello: Diesel's way of saying "hello" is by bumping into other engines.
  • Bait-and-Switch: It were to seem that Diesel is going to bump Daisy again, but is switched to another track and greets her beside her.
  • Catchphrase Interruptus:
Daisy: I don't know. This could be... [gasps] ...the end of the line for moi!
Dart: Uh... What she means is—
Den: I know what she means!
    Dart: Oh.
  • Determinator: Despite a broken spring, Daisy still brought the passengers to the station.
  • Five Stages of Grief: Diesel hits all five stages throughout the episode. When 'Arry and Bert tell him that Daisy might have to be scrapped, Diesel denies having anything to do with it. When Paxton tells him the news, Diesel gets angry, and thinks Paxton is blaming him. Diesel bargains for Daisy's forgiveness by explaining why he did it while he thinks Daisy is asleep. Diesel gets depressed after Daisy reprimands him. Finally, he accepts that if he wants friends, he needs to treat others with kindness.
  • My God, What Have I Done?: When Diesel learns how bad the damage to Daisy is, he feels very guilty about it.
  • Shout-Out: The episode's title may be a reference to Springtime for Hitler, a fictional musical in Mel Brooks' 1968 film The Producers.
  • What You Are in the Dark: When the Dieselworks are empty and he thinks Daisy is asleep, Diesel explains why he bumped into her. He wants to be her friend, but doesn't know how to do it.
