"Knock, Knock, Tyler."

In the fourth tape, Hannah reveals she had a stalker. The culprit: the school photographer and resident nerd, Tyler Down. Tyler would stand outside of Hannah's bedroom window and take pictures of her without her knowing. Knowing he had taken her sense of safety and privacy away, Hannah had made this tape so the listeners would turn up outside his window. Tyler calls out Clay for not pursuing her and sitting on the sidelines, just as he did.

Halloween night and the student of Liberty High have a costume competition with a $200 prize for the best one. Marcus goes as a tropical storm but loses to Justin and Jessica, who've come as Sid Vicious and Nancy Spungen.

Marcus bumps into Clay outside of Tyler's house that night and tells him that he didn't listen to the tapes.

Flashback. After their shift at the Claremont, Hannah and Clay walk home together and discuss zombies. They talk about various movies and TV shows and what zombies are truly going for. The chemistry still sparks but Clay opts for a hug goodnight.

Mr. Porter is revealed to have two young children; one is 9 months old and the other is 2 and a half. He stops by the Baker's pharmacy and talks about the recently opened Walplex with Hannah's dad, Andy.

During Halloween night, kids in the neighbourhood trouble the Baker house. Clay spots them and shouts at them to get away. He's caught by Olivia who thinks he's responsible. When he explains who he is, Olivia realises this could be an opportunity to get more insight into her daughter's life. She asks Clay to have a look through Hannah's things but he makes his excuses, uncomfortable and leaves.

Flashback. Hannah shares her fears about her stalker with Courtney. Courtney offers to sleep over so Hannah wouldn't feel afraid and they could catch the culprit if they appear. After drinking whatever Hannah could find in the alcohol cupboard, the girls play Truth or Dare. They end up kissing after Courtney apologises for just assuming the rumours of Hannah being a slut were true. Hannah soon hears the tell-tale clicking of a camera lens. Courtney shines her torch outside and they discover Tyler is the stalker with the camera. Courtney freaks out and leaves. In school the next day, Courtney all but ignores Hannah. She goes to Tyler to ask for the photographs and he gives her the negatives. However later on, he asks Hannah if she'd like to hang out with him. She laughs and he decides to release the photo of her and Courtney kissing. It's unclear who the girls are in the picture but Courtney immediately blames Hannah.

Clay, upset with Tyler's revenge, decides to get his own back. He sneaks to Tyler's house and takes a picture of him as he undresses in the window. He sends a picture of Tyler naked to the group of kids in Liberty. Tyler also receives the text and cries. Tony texts Clay asking what the hell he's doing. Clay just responds that he's making his own justice.

This episode shows examples of:

  • Adaptational Villainy: Tyler is confirmed to be Hannah's stalker who's been taking pictures of her without her consent. In the book, it was never actually proven to be Tyler.
  • Ambiguously Bi: Despite pining after boys, Hannah doesn't seem to mind Courtney's advances until Tyler shows up with his camera.
  • The Reveal: Tyler is the subject of the tape because he was stalking Hannah and took pictures of her and Courtney drunkenly kissing before spreading that around the school and outed Courtney.
  • What the Hell, Hero?: Tony scolds Clay for spreading a photograph of Tyler's bare ass around the school, stating that bullying someone to end bullying only allows the cycle to continue.
