Return to Recap: The Smurfs (1981).
The episode starts with Clumsy Smurf gathering firewood until he trips over a rake, causing Lazy to be disturbed from his nap and Handy's automatic smurfberry picking machine to go haywire. Meanwhile, Jokey gives Greedy one of his joke boxes to him, causing the cake to splatter all over Brainy's head. Clumsy bumps into Jokey with his logs and tries to speak in his defense, but nobody listens to him.
Wanting to become a wizard, Clumsy asks Papa Smurf if he can become his apprentice, but Papa turns him down. In desperation, Clumsy steals a page from one of Gargamel's books—but when Clumsy tries the spell, it turns him into a scaly green beast.

- Adaptational Alternate Ending: The comic story originally ended when the Smurfs, thinking the Smurf was doing magic again, was making a recipe for a Smurf Baba. The episode changed it to where Clumsy is accepted by the other Smurfs and is given an exploding gift by Jokey.
- Compressed Adaptation: The part where the Smurf is given a gag formula to create and drink, so he can make everyone obey his command is cut in the cartoon episode.
