Tropes present in the episode:

  • Antagonist Title: The episode is named after The Changeling, the shapeshifting demon trying to stop the heroes at Arbolon castle.

  • Bigger Is Better in Bed: Wil is well endowed if Eretria's comments after having sex with him are anything to go by.
Eretria: I'll never call you short tips again.
  • Blessed with Suck: How Bandon sees his Seer powers.
  • Clingy Jealous Girl: Amberle is not happy to find out Eretria and Wil slept together, partly due to jealousy, partly because of their rivalry.
  • The Confidant: Catania is this to Amberle. Wil offers to be this too, but she turns him down.
  • Faking the Dead: The Changeling reveals it did this at the end of the episode.
  • Frame-Up: The Changeling tries to pin down its murders on Eretria by assuming her form and trying to kill Catania.
  • Honey Trap: Eretria pulls this on Wil again, sleeping with him and stealing his Elfstones before he wakes up.
  • Impaled with Extreme Prejudice: When The Changeling kills Went it stabs him in the stomach and through his head.
  • Inadequate Inheritor: King Eventide considers Prince Arion to be one given his attitude towards Allanon and tells him he won't step down even after the crisis is done since Arion shows he's not ready to be a king.
  • "Leave Your Quest" Test: The Ellcrys gives one to Amberle in order to see if she's worthy of the world-saving quest. It manifests an evil version of Wil who she has to fight and kill, in order for her to show her commitment and that distractions such as love won't interfere with her goal.

  • Not Staying for Breakfast: After sleeping with Wil, Eretria sneaks off with his Elfstones the morning after.
  • Rescue Romance: Catania develops a crush on Bandon after he saves her.
  • Sex Goddess: Implied, as Eretria brags about having sex with Wil for an hour and "knocked him out" while she was none worse for the wear.
  • Sexy Discretion Shot: After Eretria seduces Wil, she pushes him to the bed, and we Fade to Black. When we next see them, Wil's passed out in bed under a Modesty Bedsheet while a fully dressed Eretria is making her way out with the Elfstones.
  • This Was His True Form: After Allanon snaps its neck The Changeling turns back into its real form.
  • The Unfair Sex: Eretria pulls this when she tries to guilt Wil, accusing him of being the one to seduce her. Wil is having none of it.
