     The Beginning
The blog is set up by Chihiro as part of a class assignment, where the members of class 78 answer questions sent in by anons. The first are your typical asks concerning how the characters are doing, where were learn a few details about them. Kyoko has managed to patch things up with her father, Sayaka has a crush on Makoto, and there was apparently some of kind of Noodle Incident involving Hiro spiking the punch at Class 78's New Year's party.

One of the anons brings up the possibility of the infamous serial killer Genocider Syo residing somewhere in the school. Kyoko and Byakuya, curious about the possibility, begin their investigation. In the archive, they find the file detailing the likelihood that the killer is someone in their teens and suffers from Dissociative Identity Disorder. They reason that the differing identities might also have different tastes, so begin looking into the students' various interests. They manage to narrow it down to one person: Toko. She's had numerous check-outs with manga, something she's said she hates. Suspicious, they bring her in for an interrogation.

When they confront her about it, Toko immediately sprints away. Kyoko corners her, saying they want to help, but Toko pulls out a bottle of pepper and inhales it, causing her to sneeze and switch personalities to Syo. She's about ready to slice up Kyoko, but Byakuya arrives with backup from Mukuro and Sakura. They manage to subdue her offscreen and Toko/Syo is taken in for questioning by Headmaster Kirigiri. The school chooses not to get the authorities involved, saying it's a "school problem" since she's one of their students. A compromise is made where Toko is allowed to attend as long as she keeps her alternate identity under control or else she'll be sent to jail. Regardless of this revelation, the others are quick to reaccept her.

Not long afterward, Hope's Peak begins its annual concert.

     The Hope Games
The longest of the story arcs, the Hope Games are a competition held for the members of Class 78. It's eventually won by Mondo and Taka, who begin a romantic relationship not long after.

After the end of the games, Class 77 permanently join the blog project by request of Headmaster Kirigiri.

     Summer Vacation
After the end of the Hope Games, summer vacation begins. Sonia invites all of Class 77 out to Novoselic for a few weeks while most of Class 78 returns home. Byakuya, Celes, Junko, Mukuro, Hifumi, Leon, Kyoko, and Sakura all choose remain at school, where Junko introduces them all to Monaca. Mukuro is naturally suspicious and begins her investigation. It's also during this time that we learn Leon is the one who is the one putting the supermodel poster in the boy's locker room as a prank, which has been bringing Taka all kinds of stress undue stress for seven months. Naturally, someone is quick to inform Mondo.

On the other side of the world, class 77 begins their stay with a visit to the beach. Among the many things we learn about them include Ibuki's fear of garden gnomes, Kazuichi and Gundham's pet project of creating giant robot animals (known as the Gunkazu project), and that Gundham actually had feelings for both Sonia and Kazuichi. One of the anons decides to lock them in a room together until they manage to work it out.

It's also here in Novoselic that one of the anons reveals to Nagito the existence of the Ultimate Despair.

The Incident of Hope's Peak Academy
After returning from Novoselic, several of the students begin their personal search quests: Nagito looking for the Ultimate Despair, Ibuki looking for the gnomes, Gundham looking for the opening in his magic circle, etc. Someone also informs Teruteru that there's a KiriZono doujinshi that survived the initial purge and he begins his own quest. This all coincides with Mondo arriving to deal with Leon. Naturally assuming he wants to beat the crap out of him, Leon runs for his life. All of this ends with a four-way collision between Mondo, Ibuki, Gundham, and Teruteru, with Akane and Nekomaru arriving to hang Mondo from the flagpole by his underwear.

During the collision, Teruteru ends up breaking one of his fingers and they take him to Mikan.

Meanwhile, Mukuro continues thinking about how she can deal with Junko and Monaca, and is also informed by the anons that Nagito knows about the Ultimate Despair as well. They keep suggesting that she get help, but she refuses to get anyone else involved if she can help it.

On the roof of the school, Rogue tells Junko that she's done being her ally. Naturally, Junko is not pleased to hear this. Mukuro and RAM arrive on the roof to protect her, but Junko pulls out a silenced gun and threatens to kill everyone. There'll be no evidence she was there and no video evidence since the cameras all down for repairs. With few options left, Mukuro readies her knife. Another of the anons attempts to grab Junko from behind, but she turns it around and takes them hostage.

Simultaneously, someone informs Nagito that if he wants to see the face of Ultimate Despair, he needs to get to the roof. He doesn't buy it at first, reasoning that it sounds like a trap, but he eventually relents at their insistence.

Back on the roof, Junko tries to break Mukuro's resolve by bringing up her time in Fenrir, how she put people into these exact kinds of situations, and insisting she's just as cold-blooded, which sends Mukuro into a blubbering mess. Rogue tries to fight Junko, but Junko states that she has backup: one of the students in the school has already become a Remnant of Despair.

Meanwhile, down in the infirmary with Teruteru, one of the anons informs Mikan that there's a medical emergency on the roof and she needs to hurry. At the same time, she gets a text on her phone. She says that she has to go and Teruteru's hand will heal just fine now, leaving him a bit confused. The anons warn her that it's dangerous to go alone and to bring Peko or someone with her. Mikan reassures everyone that it'll be fine and she's even brought her shots.

That's when she arrives on the roof and apologizes to Junko for being late. Junko asks her to deal with Mukuro and she'll be forgiven for anything she thinks she did wrong today. Mikan grabs Mukuro by the hair, threatening to inject her with some unholy substance. The anons tell Mikan that they'll never forgive her for what she's done, but she says she's fine with it, since she has Junko to forgive her for everything now. When Rogue tries to fight Junko, Mikan grabs her by the arm and wonders how much despair it would bring if she took her powers away. One of the anons asks Mikan what happened to the whole "do no harm" thing, which she responds to with a wink and says despair showed her a way where she can always be forgiven. However, thanks to some interference from the anons, she begins faltering.

That's when Nagito steps out of the shadows, having observed the whole situation. Then Kyoko, Kazuichi, and Akane come running up from the stairwell. Mukuro also snaps out of her Heroic BSoD and is ready to take on Junko and Mikan. However, Mikan also snaps out of her daze and, on Junko's request, pulls out a flash grenade. The two escape in the confusion.

Somewhere else, Junko says she has to retreat, but Mikan won't becoming. Why? Because she was only pretending to be a Remnant of Despair. Junko figured it out when she switched targets from Mukuro to Rogue, reasoning that a true remnant wouldn't do so. Mikan couldn't do it because she's just too nice. Even then, Junko says she's not going to do anything to her and instead just tells her to go back. Mikan is worried that they'll never forgive her or even hear her out for what she did, but Junko suggest she talk to Hajime and makes her retreat, telling Mikan to keep being herself, since it's what people like about her.

Mikan apprehensively returns to the group. She tries to explain herself with some support from Kyoko, but Nagito is naturally still suspicious of her. However, Teruteru arrives to set the record straight. Since he knows the habits of every girl in Hope's Peak Academy, he knows she's being genuine. Then Mikan breaks down crying, thanking him and asking them all to forgive her for what she did. Kyoko suggests they warn the rest of the school about what happened.

In the end, the Incident of Hope's Peak had no casualties, but Junko vanished without a trace.

     The Aftermath

     The Hope's Peak Arc
After school returns, a new student returns to school, having been re-accepted into the Hope's Peak program after improving her talent and getting her grades back up. She introduces herself to Class 78 as Ryouko Otonashi, the Ultimate Analyst, many of whom are happy to meet her. Even Mukuro, who stumbles in late. Ryouko becomes a member of the ask blog, explaining that she suffers from amnesia and has to keep all of her information in a notebook. Later joining the ask blog is Yasuke Matsuda, the Ultimate Neurologist.

Not too long after the year starts up, a member of one of the new classes, Junpei Yokozawa, the Ultimate Blogger, is revealed to be running the blog. When an anon sends in an ask asking him "Hope or Despair?", he reveals himself to be a member of Ultimate Despair, and sets up the Death Flag system, where, if certain asks are made, various students can be marked for death.

Later, Mahiru, Ibuki, and Mikan all get mysterious notes directing them to the gym, where they find the dead body of Hiyoko. Oceanis and Leon then discover the body of Yasuke Matsuda facedown in the pool. Leon himself nearly dies not long after, only saved by Kyoko.
