Recap / The Office (US) S1 E6 "Hot Girl"

Go To

Jan calls Michael and tells him Dunder-Mifflin will be offering an incentive prize to the best sales person. A purse vendor sets up in the conference room. While vendors normally aren't allowed, it's Amy Adams, so what are you gonna do?

Air date: April 26, 2005

Tropes

  • Cringe Comedy: Micheal's attempts to seduce a clearly-uninterested Katy are painfully uncomfortable to watch.
  • Drugs Are Bad: Subverted with Michael's speech about coffee.
In the Eighties, before everybody knew how bad cocaine was...Man, did they move paper!
  • Dude Magnet: Each of the guys take turns hitting on Katy.
  • Early-Installment Weirdness: Dwight brazenly asking Katy for a date while she shows bags to Angela, before the Dwangela pairing happened.
  • Friendly Tickle Torture: Roy interrupts a moment between Jim and Pam by playfully tickling her, much to Jim's upset.
  • Gag Dub: Jim and Pam provide a voiceover for Dwight hitting on Katy.
  • Less Embarrassing Term: Jim convinces Dwight that a purse is like a mini-briefcase, for men.
  • Mistaken for Gay: Because Jim initially says he doesn't want to pursue Katy, Roy thinks Jim is gay (which, given Jim's not-so-hidden crush on Pam, counts as Comically Missing the Point for Roy).
  • Never Heard That One Before: Michael refers to Oscar as "Oscar the Grouch" and brags to Katy that he "made the connection" and that Oscar "never heard that before he worked here," when it's pretty obvious that this is just Michael's own Sarcasm-Blind interpretation of Oscar telling him this.
  • Never Live It Down: In-universe, when Katy asks for a coffee. Micheal draws the conclusion that liking coffee is her main trait and most of his "seduction" attempts revolve around it. It's not.
  • Snub by Omission: Katy says that "it was nice to meet some of you" as she leaves.
  • Your Mom: Jim tells Roy that his "type" is moms. Kevin tells him to stay away from his mom, to which Jim replies, "Too late."

McDonald's As Featured In Meal

McDonald's is so ubiquitous in pop culture that they can make commercials consisting of nothing but references to, parodies of, and product placements for the fast food corporation and its products. This August 2023 commercial is for their limited-time "As Featured In" meal based on these references and also serves as a cross-promotion with Loki's second season (note the "Streaming October 6 on Disney+" message) as well as Palace Skateboards, who started a collaboration with McDonald's at the same time. (Palace doesn't have a TV Tropes page; we don't cover lifestyle brands.) Note that, as of the uploading of this video, the 30 Rock episode "St. Valentine's Day" does not have a Recap page here yet. Also, the commercial doesn't mention the episode title for The Office (US) episode used in the ad ("Hot Girl").

How well does it match the trope?
