Release: December 20, 2016

Film: I'll Be Home for Christmas

Tagline: Heck with Scrooge, THIS is the twerp you wanna hate around Christmas.

  • Actor Allusion: The Critic acts as Bill Lumbergh after seeing Gary Cole play Jake's dad.
If you could cast me in a different movie, that'd be greeeeeeeeat.
  • Actually Pretty Funny: The Critic finds the scene with Jake and a vulture to be funny, and says the film could be saved if it was just a road trip with those two.
  • Artistic License – Law: The Critic points out a scene of Nolan talking about not wanting to fence stolen goods while he's on a payphone next to a cop.
  • Berserk Button: Mickey Mouse is not fond of mothers in his movies.
"IS THAT A MOTHER ON THE PHONE?!"
  • Catharsis Factor: The Critic loved the scene of Alie ripping Jake's glued-on Santa hat off his head.
  • Comedic Sociopathy: D-Bag's character runs on this. He does horrible things to the people around him and he treats his antics like they're nothing to worry about.
  • Contrived Coincidence: The Critic takes issue that Jake, Alie and Eddie all happen to be from the same town.
  • Even Evil Has Loved Ones: D-Bag turns out to be the Devil's nephew. This discovery makes the Critic feel a little better.
  • Even Evil Has Standards: Since it's shown Jake's only coming home for Christmas because of a car bribe, the Grinch comes in to say that Jake is an asshole.
  • Evil Is Easy: The reason the Critic gives for why he doesn't hate D-Bag despite his efforts to make himself a Hate Sink in-universe and out.
D-Bag: What conceivable reason could you have not to hate me?
Critic: BECAUSE IT'S TOO EASY!! It's the easiest thing in the world to do! Any imbecile can hate! It's lazy!!
  • Gosh Dang It to Heck!: NC reacts to Alie calling Jake a butthole like the Disney equivalent of a Precision F-Strike.
  • Groin Attack: D-Bag kicks Santa Christ in his "jingle balls."
  • Hate Sink: D-Bag is quite clearly meant to be hated by the audience. Also, the Critic's "The Reason You Suck" Speech seems to be him expressing his dislike for this trope.
  • Identical Grandson: D-Bag looks very much like his uncle, Satan. It helps that they are both played by Malcolm.
  • Idiot Ball: NC calls out a teacher on this, upon seeing her nonchalant reaction to three students taking out their pagers at the same time during a test.
  • Ignored Epiphany: After D-Bag receives "The Reason You Suck" Speech, he chooses not to explain his character to the Critic.
  • Jerkass: D-Bag is a exageration, he spends the whole review doing all kinds of despicable things and hurting a lot of people, even being proud of it, and no redeeming qualities.
  • Jerk with a Heart of Gold: The Critic shows that he cares about Santa Christ and Chester enough to call out D-Bag for hurting the former and to allow the latter with his fiancée to stay at his house. Also with the latter, he decides to allow him to take his time on his Bum Reviews rather than push his deadlines.
  • Kick the Dog: D-Bag sets fire to a sick little boy's house.
  • Kick The Son Of A Bitch: The Critic points out that the "prank" on Jake is pretty much attempted murder...but since Jake's such a huge asshole, he thinks it is perfectly acceptable thing to do.
  • Long List: D-Bag has a list of potential catchphrases.
  • Missing Mom: Enforced with NC as the dad saying the Mouse doesn't like mommies.
  • "The Reason You Suck" Speech: The Critic gives one to D-Bag for trying to make the Critic hate him so much rather than connect with him.
  • Ripped from the Headlines: The Critic tries to save a joke with a defibrillator, then quips over a string of celebrity death in 2016.
  • Take That!: The fact that Mickey Mouse doesn't like mommies in Disney films.
  • They Wasted a Perfectly Good Character: In-Universe, The Critic thinks the vulture scene was so good, he should've been in the movie as an animal companion to Jake.
  • This Is Gonna Suck: NC has this reaction any time D-Bag calls him up.
  • Throw It In!: The Critic jokes that Thomas did this with a rather awkward scene where Jake starts complaining to the Santa figure in the Christmas attraction he is sleeping in about how red is a really lame color... only for the director to ask him not to.
  • Throw the Dog a Bone:
    • At the end of the review, the Critic allows Chester and his fiancée to stay awhile at the house.
    • D-Bag attempts to redeem his character by giving Chester and his fiancée some cash, even though he's far from redeeming.
  • Unsympathetic Comedy Protagonist: The Critic's biggest complaint about Jake. As well as the Jerk with a Heart of Gold teen archetype of this running rampent in the 90's.
  • Wants a Prize for Basic Decency:
    • The Critic's other biggest complaint about Jake, having to be bribed with a Porsche to come home for Christmas and thoughout the movie only did two good things, and one standard thing he should have been doing anyway.
    • D-Bag insists giving a homeless man money makes up for all the damage be caused, but The Critic isn't having it.
  • Wants to Be Hated: D-Bag desperately wants the Critic to hate him, and the fact that he won't is a point of contention for him.
  • What Do You Mean, It's for Kids?: In-universe, the Critic's reaction for Jake ripping off Ed-man's towel is to superimpose the Disney logo over the latter's censored region.
  • What Is This Feeling?: The Critic jokes about how when Jake gets turned down by Alie for a Christmas vacation to the beach, he has to confront this weird sensation humans call "emotions."
  • What the Hell, Hero?: The Critic calls out Alie for forgiving Jake even though there was nothing to forgive and she's guilty of kissing another guy.

Why, that two-timin' ho!
