Film: Pound Puppies and the Legend of Big Paw (1988)
This review contaons examples of:
- A Rare Sentence: During Big Paw's song:Critic: [sighs] You know what I could use right now? I could use a shot of Tyler Durden's penis. I don't usually say that, but this just seems like the right movie to put it in.Jack: So when the snooty cat and the courageous dog with the celebrity voices meet for the first time onscreen, that's when you catch a flash of Tyler's contribution to the film.
- Call-Back: To the Street Fighter/Mortal Kombat review:McNasty: I will take control of the pound, and then... the country. And then... THE WORLD!!!
M. Bison: Of COURSE! - Captain Obvious: Critic mocks the puppies when they think something’s "odd" about McNasty."...nooooooooo. I, wha, what the, nooooooooooo!"
- Facepalm: The Critic's reaction when the dog from the Puppy Power backstory is identified as "Digalot".
- Fantastic Aesop: Invoked. At the end of the review:Critic: Remember kids, you can talk to your dogs! If for some reason it doesn't work, there's something wrong with you! You should be ashamed and feel totally awful that you are unable to enjoy your dog! Sorry, we don't know what the fuck's wrong with you. Maybe you're just an idiot.
- Fantastic Racism: The Critic notes that Cooler seems to have a "deep-seated cat prejudice".
- Fat and Skinny: The Henchmen are made fun of for being this cliche.
- Faux Horrific: The Critic's reactions to the only consequence of losing puppy power is that kids and dogs won't talk to each other.
- Freeze-Frame Bonus: The Fight Club parody, where a picture of two dogs humping is displayed for only one or two frames in an otherwise innocuous scene.
- Jump Scare: Critic is scared when a sweet song about babies changes to McNasty bursting in.
- Just Eat Him:Big Paw: I better hide.
Critic: You better hide? You're a giant! Why don't you try eating the fucking house!? - Name McAdjective: The Critic dubs the boy in the Dark Ages flashback as "Pussy McPantaloon-Britches".
- Scooby-Dooby Doors: Such a sequence in the movie gets Scooby-Doo and the gang added.
- Screw This, I'm Outta Here:
- Critic dubs over the Black Knight saying that he's devoting his life to catching Smurfs.
- Also when Critic goes into a real pound and doesn't find it at all fun like in the movie, he says "Fuck this, I'm getting a turtle".
- Shout-Out:
- The official art had Elmyra Duff hugging a dog version of the Critic.
- Critic calls the abrupt flashback to medieval times "Spamalot: The Animated Seres" and "Quest for Camelot's table scraps".
- A Ben Stein "Clear Eyes" commercial plays after a close-up of the Black Knight's red eyes.
- "By the power of Greyhound!"
- During Big Paw's introduction, as Nose Marie stammers "It's...", the footage cuts to the title sequence for Monty Python's Flying Circus.
- When the Panty Shot of Nose Marie is shown, audio from Spaceballs is dubbed into the footage.
- Critic splicing an image of 2 dogs humping into the movie.
- Unfortunate Names: When a cat is referred to as a "Pound Purry":Critic: Wait, a Pound Purry? Did she really just call a cat a Pound Purry? What, did "Pound Pussy" cause too much controversy?
- Who Writes This Crap?!: The entire plot tying Puppy Power to King Arthur of all things finally brings him to this;Cooler: Us Coolers are descendants of King Arthur's puppy, Digalot.Critic: [facepalming] Who wrote this?
"Mwah! I love you!"
