Release: May 1, 2019

Focus: Toonami

The Nostalgia Critic is roped into joining his younger peers Malcolm, Tamara, Walter and Heather as they review the famous Cartoon Network block of shows they grew-up with.

Shows

This review provides examples of...

  • A Day in the Limelight: Walter and Heather usually don't have big parts in Critic's reviews, but since Critic was just over the target demographic of Toonami when it started, they, Malcolm and Tamara do most of the reviewing, knowing its shows much better than he does, and therefore being able to talk about them more in depth.
  • Attention Whore: Critic desperately tries to get some screentime in this episode, despite the fact that he's been the main star ever since the series started, and this is one of the few times the others can get a bit more than they usually do.
  • Call-Back: When Heather announces the Sailor Moon anime, Critic confidently cuts-in, saying he has already reviewed it. Heather responds that unlike him, she can cover it correctly, earning a "sick burn" reaction from the others.
  • *Crack!* "Oh, My Back!": Parodied. Critic is so upset about being sidelined in this episode, he pretends to be a cranky old man, and when Walter starts dragging him to the couch, he screams about his brittle bones. Then he's told to cut it out, and he does.
  • Lame Comeback: After after a string of Animesque shows, Critic asks where are the actual anime, with the giant fighting robots, Heather shows him the title card of Mobile Suit Gundam Wing, asking if he meant that one.
    Critic: No, not at all.
Heather: Oh... [Beat] ...well, too bad.
  • Rule of Cool: Invoked. Critic talks at length about Jonny Quest: The Real Adventures, only to conclude it was just So Okay, It's Average. When the others ask why does he talk about it then, he admits, it's partly because he wanted to talk about something he knew, and partly because it's intro was awesome.
  • Swapped Roles: After forcing Tamara and Malcolm to join him on his review of the Disney Afternoon shows, and barely giving both them and Walter and Heather time with their shows on the Fox Kids episode, Critic finds himself on the receiving end, as they force him to sit down with them for their review of Toonami.

"And the Wonder Twins, Zan and Jayna! With their space monkey, Gleek!"
