Recap / The New Adventures Of Winnie The Pooh S 1 E19b Fish Out Of Water

Go To

Gopher moves into Rabbit’s house when the annual muttonhead trout migration passes through his tunnels. Rabbit determines to get the fish out of the tunnels - with Pooh and Piglet’s assistance - so Gopher can move back in.

This episode contains examples of the following tropes.

  • Accidental Tickle Torture: See Squirrels in My Pants below.
  • Balloonacy: Eeyore gets stranded in the sky, suspended only by the balloon on his tail, after the plan to make it rain fails. This puts him in considerable danger when a lightning storm brews.
  • Beyond the Impossible: The gang somehow makes it rain by using a giant plunger to pull the bottom out of a cloud.
  • Didn't Think This Through: Twice.
    • Rabbit’s first plan to get the trout out of Gopher’s tunnels is for the gang to go down there and confront them directly. With nothing more than baskets, fishing rods and nets. Naturally, they find themselves woefully under-equipped against the vast numbers of the shoal.
    • When that plan fails, Gopher decides to board up his tunnels to keep the trout from coming through. He ends up trapping the gang between two of the barricades with no way out. Then the trout break through one of the barricades through sheer weight of numbers…
  • D.I.Y. Disaster: Gopher starts "renovating" Rabbit's house almost on the instant he moves in, which eventually leads to the entire tree collapsing into the earth when he tries installing a basement underneath it. This proves to be the last straw for Rabbit, who declares he'll move in with Pooh just to get away from Gopher.
  • Here We Go Again!: After successfully getting the trout to swim upstream and Gopher gets his tunnels back, Gopher is ready to move out of Rabbit's and go back home...at least until the trout come back downstream. Not wanting to face him living with him again, Rabbit decides to swim with the trout out of the wood.
  • Sanity Slippage: Rabbit loses his mind after Gopher tells him the trout will come back downstream. He ends up literally swimming with the fishes.
  • Squirrels in My Pants: While the gang are battling the trout in Gopher’s tunnels, a fish ends up in Piglet’s onesie, tickling him and making him laugh.
Rabbit: Piglet, this is no laughing matter!
  • Terrestrial Sea Life: The muttonhead trout don’t seem to have any problem traveling on land despite being fish.
  • The Thing That Would Not Leave: Gopher becomes this to Rabbit after the trout run him out of his tunnels, much to the latter's dismay. To this, Rabbit decides to run the fish out of Gopher's tunnels so he can move back home.
