Recap / The Mask S 2 E 3 Flight As A Feather

Go To

The Mask loses his lucky fedora feather while preparing for a Swedish karaoke contest at the Coco Bongo, and races through Edge City to get it- all the while dodging Kellaway and Doyle and a string of bizarre characters, including Mayor Tilton's vengeful ex-girlfriend, a Camp Gay performance artist doing an installment at a feather factory, a mother eagle and Walter (who somehow ended up inside a whale).

Tropes:

  • A Day in the Limelight: The Mask appears entirely in this episode as Stanley does not appear in this one and it focuses on what The Mask does when he's around if he doesn't take his face off.
  • Cloudcuckoolander: The Mask as usual decides to take a shower which he changes his appearance into his swimsuit along with his flappers and rubber duck ring just because he likes singing and having fun in the shower not because he needs them to keep himself dry.
  • Cranky Landlady: Mrs Peenman as always is this as she shouts rudely to far as she knows Stanley to keep his singing down as he's making her african violets droop which The Mask decides to put a loud song on her though due to being a gentleman, he does put headphones on her so that their neighbours won't be disturbed by what's going on.
Mrs Peenman: Pipe down in there Ipkiss! You're making my african violets droop!
Mask: (He comes out of the shower with his swimsuit, his flappers and his rubber duck ring) That's not all that's drooping on the old bag. (He changes back to his default form) Hmm-Hmm-Hmm, i tell ya pooch. Everybody's a critic.
  • Distracted by the Sexy: When The Mask sees that his feather has flown off again he decides to go after it again but however Kellaway and Doyle are in his way so he decides to stop the mayor's ex-girlfriend from spinning and leave her completely naked in front of them which though not seen entirely it is clear that Kellaway and Doyle have lost focus on arresting The Mask by seeing the sight of her body entirely.
  • Everyone Has Standards: The Mask decides to make Mrs Peenman pay for being rude to him on banging on the wall to tell him to keep the noise down after his singing by putting a cassette player which mocks her but puts headphones on her ears so that the neighbours don't hear all that loud noise coming from the cassette player which shows The Mask does respect his neighbour's privacy and will make sure not to have them disturbed by what's he doing with Mrs Peenman. He also gives the customer a sick bag so that he does not end up feeling embarrassed for vomiting showing though desperate to get his feather back at any cost, The Mask will keep his politeness up and be kind to people no matter what.
  • Extreme Omnivore: The Mask disposes of the bombs from the mayor's ex-girlfriend and turns them into a juice which he drinks.
  • Jerk with a Heart of Gold: Though The Mask only did it mostly to get his feather back he still saves the mayor from being killed by his ex-girlfriend and is also polite as well by giving a customer a sick bag so that he can puke in it while still trying to get his feather back.
  • Kavorka Man: Mayor Tilton has to deal with a crazed ex-lover, an incredibly sexy "exotic dancer" named Cookie BaBoom, who threatens to blow herself up along with him, because if she cant have him, no one can. This despite Tilton being bald, fat and having a rather wimpy personality.
    • Then again, he IS the Mayor of Edge City, so it might be a case of Gold Digger and/or Power is Sexy as far as Cookie is concern.
  • Only Sane Man: The Mask remains calm while everyone else is pancking from Mayor Tilton's ex-girlfriend's attempt to blow herself up and takes care of the problem straightaway by taking them off her, then turn them into a juice which he drinks while Kellaway and Doyle are too focused on taking The Mask in instead of stopping Mayor Tilton's ex girlfriend.
Mask: Must I do anything in this town?
  • Singing in the Shower: The Mask while he is in a shower with him wearing his swimsuit, his duck ring and his flappers, decides to sing about going out to the Coco Bongo and winning the contest tonight which after he finishes singing he asks Milo can he sing or what but Milo clearly did not like that singing and covers his ears which leads to The Mask being disappointed that his dog did not like it at all.
  • Nice Guy: As always The Mask is this as he respects his neighbour’s privacy by putting headphones on Mrs Peenman’s ears and the fact that he did not sing very loudly while having a shower shows just how much of a gentlemen he is by keeping the volume down so that they don’t come over to complain about the singing except Mrs Peenman who as always tells him to keep his singing down even though he was not being very loud with it.
  • Voluntary Shapeshifting: The Mask as always changes his appearance such as a minstrel, a farmer, a bartender, a knight, a surfer, a swashbuckler in white clothes, a baby, a modern skier, a knight again and finally a golfer.
    • In the first scene he already changed into his swimsuit with his flappers and his rubber duck ring to take a shower then after taking it changes back into his default form.
  • Vomit Discretion Shot: The Mask sees his feather that’s landed on a pizza and pushes a customer out of the way so that he can get his feather back but the customer not happy that The Mask pushed him out of the way told him that he was first in line which The Mask pretty much admits he was there first but wanting to get his feather back at any cost he decides to show his organs literally to the customer which causes him about to puke which The Mask offers him a bag so that he can puke in it.
