Wheel and Deal

Lana wants to win a race car ride-along with her hero, so she and Lincoln enter to compete in a soap box derby.

"Wheel and Deal"

  • The Big Race: Lana takes part in a soap box derby in order to impress superstar racer Bobby Fletcher.
  • Bittersweet Ending: Lana comes in dead last in the race due to choosing to start the race over after discovering that Lincoln cheated for her. But Lana still gets to meet Bobbie Fletcher, who is impressed that she was the only racer who built her own car and even offers to help repair the car after it breaks down.
  • Brick Joke: Lincoln and Lana make seatbelts out of Lola's feather boas (without her permission). During the race, Lola notices this and is not happy about it.
  • Complexity Addiction: Lana insists on building her race car from scratch rather than driving a car that's already built in order to honor her hero, who always built her own car from scratch.
  • Ejection Seat: Loud Lightning has one. Lana activates it to throw Lincoln out of the car when she finds out that he cheated to make her win, and after he apologizes to Lana, the not-quite-as-forgiving Hopps activates it again.
  • Even the Dog Is Ashamed: Like Lana, Hopps becomes angry at Lincoln for cheating.
  • Eye Am Watching You: Hopps does this gesture when Lincoln tricks Lana into taking a shortcut at the race.
  • Fantasy Sequence: When Lincoln sees how fast all of the other racers' cars are, he imagines Lana coming in last place at the race, her car completely breaking down, and Bobbie Fletcher bluntly rejecting her.
  • Hard-Work Montage: There is a short one of Lincoln and Lana making a proper race car out of Loud Lightning.
  • Honor Before Reason: Lana chooses to build her own race car rather than buy one like the other racers, despite having no chance of winning. When she figures out that Lincoln had been cheating for her during the race, she forgoes the whole race and insists on starting over.
  • I'm Okay!: Zach yells out this after he accidentally makes the dumpster he's hiding in roll down a hill and crash.
  • Operation: [Blank]: Lincoln's plan to help Lana win the race is called Operation: Win.
  • Sudden Soundtrack Stop: The exciting music at the home stretch of the race stops when Loud Lightning's turbo completely fails to activate. It briefly starts up again as Lana repeats her dramatic announcement that they're going turbo, only to stop again when her repeatedly pulling the lever still doesn't do anything.
  • Tempting Fate: When Lana pulls ahead of the other drivers at the race, she cheers that nothing can stop them now. Almost immediately, her car proves unable to make a steep hill and slows to a halt.
    Lincoln: Aaaand we're stopping.
  • What the Hell, Hero?: Lana towards Lincoln when she discovers that he was cheating to help her win the race.

Feast or Family

When Luan must enroll in a culinary class, Dad uses it to share his passion for cooking with one of his kids.

"Feast or Family"

  • A Day in the Limelight: For Luan and Mr. Loud. The rest of the family does appear, but half of them don’t even speak aside from yelling due to being hungry.
  • Berserk Button: May God have mercy if you put Mr. Coconuts into storage, Luan got really angry at Mr. Loud about it.
  • Follow in My Footsteps: Mr. Loud wants Luan to take over his restaurant after she proves her talents as a chef. Luan agrees at first, but soon gets second thoughts when she realizes the downsides of being a professional chef.
  • Follow Your Nose: Happens to Mr. Loud when he smells something delicious in the kitchen.
  • Green Around the Gills: Happens to one of Luan’s classmates when Mr. Loud drops a smelly Limburger Cheese on their lunch table.
  • High-Pressure Emotion: Apparently happens to Luan when she finally has enough of Mr. Loud pressuring her to be his heir. However, the steam doesn’t actually come out of her ears, but from the high pressure cooker standing behind her.
  • Impossible Leavening: Due to Luan using too much baking powder in the cake, it explodes up through the ceiling of the kitchen, right into Lola and Lana’s bedroom.
  • My God, What Have I Done?: Mr. Loud realizes he pushed Luan too far when she snaps at him for putting Mr. Coconuts into storage.
  • Perp Sweating: Luan does this to Lily when questioning her about Mr. Coconut’s whereabouts.
  • Pungeon Master: Luan and Mr. Loud both, resulting in tons of food puns being used throughout the episode.
  • Rage Breaking Point: Luan initially tries to put up with her dad pressuring her into taking up his passion, but him locking Mr. Coconuts up was the straw that broke the camel's back.
  • Spaghetti Kiss: Happens with Charles and Cliff when they eat Luan’s spaghetti.
  • Spit Take: Done accidentally by Mr. Loud when Luan agrees to let him help her with cooking.
  • Visible Odor: Lynn’s socks in the first scene give off a green odor-aura. A purple odor emerges from Lucy’s box with decomposing things when she opens it. And Mr. Loud is eventually drawn to the kitchen by the visible odor form whatever is cooking there.
  • Warm Water Whiz: Discussed; we learn that Luna and Luan have an agreement: the former is not allowed to play her gong at night, and the latter is not allowed to put the former's hand in warm water.
