Recap / The Looney Tunes Show S 2 E 15 The Black Widow

Go To

The fifteenth episode of the second season of The Looney Tunes Show.

When Lola loses her mother's diamond bracelet, she impersonates The Black Widow, a jewel thief from a movie, to cover it up. Meanwhile, Daffy drags a reluctant Porky to Mexico for Spring Break (since no one else will go with him), only for the two to end up as prisoners in Tacapulco, a small Mexican village.

This episode provides examples of:

  • Agony of the Feet: Bugs hurts his foot when he steps on one of Daffy's toy soldiers. He tries to tell Daffy to pick them up, only to realize that Daffy is gone for a whole week.
  • Bait-and-Switch: When Speedy arrives in Tacapulco to get Daffy and Porky out of jail, Slowpoke Rodriguez dramatically confronts him. The two slowly approach each other as if they were about to do a western duel, only to happily shout "Cousin!" and hug.
  • Balloonacy: Discussed; when Daffy and Porky arrive at Tacapulco instead of Acapulco, they try to think of something fun to do. Daffy suggests tying a million balloons to a donkey, then watching it fly away. Porky then asks Daffy where they'd get a million balloons. Daffy tries it near the end of the episode but ends up getting kicked by the donkey.
  • Calling Card: When Lola starts acting like a jewel thief, she leaves a calling card with a black widow on it (borrowed from her favorite movie).
  • Comically Missing the Point: Lola shows up for movie night all dolled up. She's surprised to learn they're watching a movie, not starring in one.
  • Continuity Nod: When Porky calls Daffy, a poster for "The Foghorn Leghorn Story" can be seen in Daffy's bedroom.
  • Death Glare: Bugs in response to Lola having had Patricia's diamond bracelet on her ankle the entire time.
  • Freeze-Frame Bonus: When Lola loses her mother's bracelet, her ankles are always concealed from the audience's view, foreshadowing that it's there the whole time.
  • Fun with Flushing: Discussed; when Daffy calls his plumber to ask him to come with him to Mexico for Spring Break, but the plumber refuses, Daffy tells the plumber "Well, then you can forget about fixing my toilet ever again, and I put a lot of weird stuff down there!"
  • Honesty Aesop: When Lola accidentally loses Patricia's diamond bracelet, Bugs suggests that she tell her the truth, but Lola is reluctant to since she took the bracelet without Patricia's permission. Near the end of the episode, after Bugs gets arrested trying to return the Elmhurst Diamond she stole to cover up the missing bracelet, she tells Walter what happened so he can pay Bugs' bail.
  • Hypocritical Humor: In the prologue, Gossamer comes to Bugs' house to ask Daffy if he'd like to play football with him. Daffy tells him he doesn't, since he's a grown-up, and grown-ups do not play. After Gossamer leaves, Daffy plays with his toys and asks Bugs if he'd like to play with him.
  • Lampshade Hanging: One of Porky's fire hazard concerns is that he left his curling iron on. Daffy questions why he, someone without any hair, would even have a curling iron in the first place. Porky says it's what he uses to keep his tail curly.
  • Literal-Minded: Three involving Lola;
    • When Lola tells Bugs that she lost her mother's diamond bracelet but can't tell her since she took it from her without her permission, Bugs tells her she's just going to have to face the music. In a later scene, Bugs finds Lola looking at a stereo as Beethoven's 5th Symphony plays on it.
    • Later, when Bugs tells Lola that she has to come clean, Lola takes a two-hour shower.
    • After Walter pays Bugs' bail after Bugs gets arrested for breaking and entering (he was actually trying to help Lola return the Elmhurst Diamond she stole), Bugs tells Lola "You finally let the cat out of the bag!" Cue Lola opening a bag with Sylvester inside.
  • Mythology Gag: When Daffy is in his bedroom, calling someone to ask them to go on Spring Break with him, a plush of Junyer Bear can be seen on his bed.
  • Oh, Crap!: Sylvester's response to being let out of the bag is to scream and run away.
  • "Oh, Crap!" Smile: As Walter goes on about the cover story she came up with, Lola does this in response to Bugs glaring at her.
  • One Phone Call: When Daffy and Porky get arrested for public nudity, Slowpoke allows them to make one phone call. Daffy first tries calling Bugs, who is in the process of helping Lola return the Elmhurst Diamond she stole, which results in Bugs getting arrested for breaking and entering. Fortunately for Daffy, Slowpoke allows him to make another phone call since Bugs didn't answer, and this time, Daffy calls Speedy.
  • Our Product Sucks: This episode's end tag has Slowpoke Rodriguez say "Come to Tacapulco! It's like Acapulco, but much worse!"
  • Properly Paranoid: Throughout this episode's B-plot, Porky worries about the various fire hazards (his iron, stove, curling iron, and antique magnifying glass) he might have left on when Daffy talks him into going with him to Mexico on his Spring Break. At the end of the episode, every single one of these things go off, causing Porky's house to catch fire.
  • Scary Shadow Fakeout: While imprisoned in Tacapulco, Daffy and Porky see a huge shadow looming over them, saying "You're gonna rot in this jail of for the rest of your miserable lives!" It is then revealed that the shadow belongs to the much smaller Slowpoke Rodriguez.
  • "Shaggy Dog" Story: It turns out that Patricia's diamond bracelet wasn't lost, it was on Lola's ankle the entire time, as she wanted to see what it would look like as an anklet.
  • Streaking: Daffy and Porky do this while on Spring Break in Tacapulco. After first attracting no attention at all (since they're cartoon animals), they point out to the locals that they are naked, and promptly get arrested.
  • Tempting Fate: This line from Bugs:
Bugs: Daffy? Oh, wait, he's gone. He's gone all week! That's seven glorious days without a crazy person in my life!
    (Lola drives up)
  • Woken Up at an Ungodly Hour: When Bugs doesn't answer, Slowpoke allows Daffy to make another phone call. This time, Daffy calls Speedy, who is annoyed that Daffy woke him up at 3:34 A.M.. Speedy asks Daffy why he's calling so late, and makes an eerily accurate guess that Daffy is in a Mexican jail and needs him to bail him out.
