Go To

Summary: Fuli learns a lesson about teamwork when she takes on a mission alone and overexerts herself, leaving herself defenseless against attacking vultures. Meanwhile, Bunga tells the rest of the Guard how he came to live with Timon and Pumbaa.

This episode contains examples of:

  • Backstory: Bunga's is revealed in this episode.
  • Big Damn Heroes: Fuli saving baby birds from fighting oryx, and later the Lion Guard saving Fuli from Mzingo.
  • Call-Back: To the original movie. Timon reminds Pumbaa that they already raised Simba.
    • Pumbaa even asks "Can we keep him [Bunga]?" in the same way he asks Timon if they could keep Simba.
  • Damsel in Distress: Fuli is this when Mzingo and the vultures get ready to attack. However, she did threaten Mzingo with "Just try me," so she very clearly wasn't going to go down without a fight.
  • Family-Unfriendly Violence: Kion and Beshte hitting the vultures look pretty fierce, while Bunga and Ono simply hit them once. In fact, precisely how Beshete didn't kill those two vultures is a pretty blunt violation of the rules of physics.
  • Fragile Speedster: While cheetahs are the fastest land animals, they are also known for getting tired quickly and requiring some time to rest after their short bursts. Mzingo lampshades this that Fuli hasn't yet learned her limits and thus left her vulnerable to attack.
  • Ode to Food: Timon and Pumbaa's song "Utamu", which is them singing the praises of this particular grub.
  • Ridiculously Cute Critter: Baby Bunga.
  • Took a Level in Badass: We finally get to see Ono fight someone, as he bites the living heck out of a vulture, in addition to him saving Bunga.
  • Villain Song: Mzingo and his vultures sing a parliamentary anthem. It's also a twisted Truth in Television since parliaments have to sing the national anthem of their country at each session.
  • What the Hell, Hero?: Kion gives this to Fuli for her recklessness.
  • Why Don't You Just Shoot Him?: Mzingo and the vultures take their sweet time talking to Fuli, instead of attacking her on the spot. This gives time for the others to catch up and curb-stomp them.
