Recap / The Librarians S3 E01 "and the Rise of Chaos"

Go To

The Librarians have been on a roll as of late, with multiple artifacts successfully retrieved without incident. However, major events are on the horizon; Apep, the Egyptian God of Chaos, has been released, and plots to unleash pure evil upon the world. Even worse, there seems to be a new agency calling itself the Department Of Statistical Anomalies (DOSA) that are tracking the Librarians. Could this mission be the prelude to a great war of good versus evil? Or has that war already begun?

Tropes:

  • Artifact Collection Agency: DOSA wants to be this, but doesn't actually know enough about what the Librarians do to use said artifacts responsibly.
  • Call-Back: While the Librarians discuss how inanimate things have been trying to warn others about Apep, gargoyles are mentioned, and it's made clear that Ezekiel still misses Stumpy.
  • Chekhov's Gun: The Librarians spend their first visit to Boston geeking out about the Antikythera mechanism (Cassandra) and the submarine in the harbor (Ezekiel and Stone). Both end up playing major roles in the plot.
  • Conflict Ball: Apep's most-shown power is to cause this in others, distracting foes and then feeding off of the chaos.
  • Demonic Possession: Apep's other notable power, starting with taking control of an ex-Navy man named Barry while he is on vacation in Egypt.
  • The Men in Black: DOSA comes off as this, with their fully-suited agents and drugging the people they interrogate to hide their location.
  • Mundane Utility: Ezekiel is using Clotho's spinning wheel to repair his sweaters.
