Recap / The Interns S 7 E 18

Go To

Kisegach (who plans to attend a scar-removing operation) considers to also change her signature nose... or, rather, just learn how much it would cost, to mock Bykov (who's unlikely to be able to afford it). Bykov is in panic: he likes her nose as is, and wants to prevent her from trying this (and yes, he is unable to afford it). But he proceeds to do so anyway (despite she never wanted to really touch her nose), to Anastasia's horror. Except... Bykov does nothing; he blackmailed her doctor into finding the excuse to abort the operation, and learned that it was fake; the rest is just Bykov's trolling.

Lobanov is sure that his previous night with Olga means that their relationship has restarted — and that he would now live with her. Olga is willing to let him, but she has one condition: she has a treaty, containing new rules for Semyon to adhere. He doesn't bother to read it and lies about it to Olga... but the only purpose of this treaty was for him to read it and learn that Olga would welcome him back if and only if he would be sincere to her. He is not ready...

Phil's landlady suddenly raises his rent, and he can't afford paying it unless he finds a roommate. Unfortunately, Gleb suggests him to search for "cohabitant" — the word which, while technically true, is mostly used for someone who not only lives with you, but also... sleeps with you. He realises that this was a prank only when Bykov tells him so. Phil still has a problem with rent, but since Lobanov, apparently, would now move back to Olya, Gleb can invite Phil to live with him. Unfortunately, Phil has a habit of walking around naked. He manages to convince Gleb to at least try it... just in time for Semyon to appear. Oops...

This episode provides examples of:

  • All for Nothing: Lobanov doesn't bother to read that treaty before signing, and later lies to Olga about it. She was ready to give him another chance, but instead kicks him out, knowing that he didn't deserve it yet.
  • Blackmail: Bykov tries to blackmail Kisegach's doctor into aborting operation under any excuse he can find, by threatening to tell everyone that he is gay, before he learns that operation (at least the part about her nose) is fake. He accidentally still slips that secret to Anastasia, but refuses to explain anything when asked.
  • Brain Bleach: Lobanov busts Gleb and Phil completely naked, and, with utter shock on his face, says that he doesn't even know how they're gonna explain it.
  • Culture Clash: While the word "sozhitel" (cohabitant) can mean "roommate", it's much more commonly used to call people who shares not only room, but also bed (but aren't married). Phil learns why everyone gives him weird look when he tries to ask them only when Bykov tells him about it. Of course, it was Gleb who suggested this in the first place, Phil was originally planned to stick with a phrase which actually means "roommate", without double meaning.
  • Home Nudist: Phil has a habit of walking around house naked (a habit which he brings with him to Gleb's apartment).
    • Initially, Gleb (predictably) reactes very negatively, but Phil manages to convince him to at least try this himself. Gleb actually likes it.
    • Semyon, after being kicked out by Olga, goes back to Gleb... and busts Gleb and Phil completely naked. His reaction in priceless.
  • Let Us Never Speak of This Again: Semyon asks Olga to never remind him that she ever had relationship with Phil. This irritates her, because Semyon himself had mentioned it thrice during one evening.
  • Out of Focus: Varya, besides brief appearance in the first half of the episode, has no role in it.
  • Secret Test of Character: Olga's "treaty" contains the countless amount of rules and restrictions... but had Semyon bothered to read it completely before signing (he considered that this is just a big list which basically amounts to "stop screwing up like you used to do", which is not worth reading further, since he already knows what to expect), he would have found one point in the middle... which cancels all the other rules. Main reason why this treaty was written in the first place is to test wether Lobanov would take Olga's wishes seriously enough to actually do as she asks, without dropping everything mid-point or lying to her. Even Gleb suggests to read it before signing, but gets ignored. Before he finally admits that he lied about reading it (and gets kicked out), Lobanov gets forced to adhere to it, with many rules being outright silly.
  • Troll:
    • Phil wants a roommate, but Gleb suggests him another word (cohabitant), which is mainly used to call people sharing not just room, but also bed (while not being married).
    • Kisegach made up the whole story with her wanting to change her nose to mock Bykov. Bykov, in turn (once he finds out) pretends that he did this for real, to her horror.
