Recap / The Interns S 6 E 17

Go To

Lobanov realises that he no longer wants to stay with Irina; he wants Olga back. But how he can gain he back? Phil looks like an ideal boyfriend, while Semyon... is exactly opposite of that. Gleb remember exactly why Olga dumped Lobanov (he was against having children), and suggests to use this against Phil: they should make Phil feel scared of having children with Olga, to the point that Olga would dump him herself! The plan backfires and makes Phil's relationship wit Olga even stronger, when Phil defeats his fear and offers to make children first, with Olga actually suggesting to wait for a bit more.

Bykov finds Lobanov's patient, who (due to inability to recognise sarcasm) put (not rectal) thermometer in his ass. Bykov suggests him to play a part in his prank on Semyon: dumbass or not, it's Lobanov's responsibility to care about him, and anything bad happening would be Lobanov's fault. So, a lie gets created: that thermometer somehow was "consumed" by the patient's ass, and now stuck deep inside him. Panicking Lobanov runs to search for proctologist, but fails to find him in time, and then patient's wife appears. Bykov realises what would happen next and tries to warn Semyon to not tell her anything, but fails to stop him, and has to save him before said wife strangles him (at which she nearly succeeds).

Kisegach meets her old friend, whose son just graduated from a prestigious university in London, with extremely well results, and now has a well-paid prestigious job; he even bough her a new car from his very first salary! He's also in relationship with some violinist girl, and plans to marry her. Unfortunately, Anastasia can't brag with Gleb: his achievements... are not exactly stellar. The friend's husband is also much, much nicer than Bykov. She can't point those comparisons to Gleb and Bykov, to their irritation. Angry at such comparisons, they cooperates to irritate Kisegach, by being so nice, it looks creepy. She understands their point, and stops complaining.

This episode provides examples of:

  • Ass Shove:
    • Lobanov's patient, due to inability to understand sarcasm, put a (non-rectal) thermometer into his ass. Fortunately, Bykov removes it before it breaks inside.
    • Bykov suggests the Semyon's patient to play a prank on Lobanov as "revenge"; according to the patient's "story", thermometer somehow was "consumed" by his ass and now is much deeper in his body. Instead of admitting his mistake, Lobanov tries to find a proctologist, forcing Bykov to distract him by lying about the patient's condition becoming much worse. This backfires when the patient's wife appears and reacts... badly when told that Semyon "nearly killed" her husband.
  • Gone Horribly Right: Bykov lies to Lobanov about his patient's condition to cause him regretting not double-checking how patient executed his orders. So, when patient's wife appears, Lobanov tells her that her husband is in terrible condition because of him. Bykov realises what would happen (since he was on phone with Semyon at the time), and tries to warn Semyon to not tell her anything, but fails. He has to stop the woman from strangling Lobanov, at which she almost succeeds.
  • Nice Guy: When Gleb and Bykov both grows angry with being constantly compared with (much more successful and in general more "elitist") Kisegach's friends, they invokes this and exaggerates to the point that it starts irritating Kisegach. They only stops when she agrees to not compare them again.
  • Old Flame: Lobanov realises that his love to Olga still lives, and is so strong, he actually wants to get her back, instead of staying with Irina.
  • Paranoia Gambit: Gleb's role in the plan of returning Olga to Semyon: he would seed Phil with fear of having children with Olga (before Phil has any chance to prepare), to the point that she would reject him herself over his paranoia. After initial statement, Phil starts doing everything by himself, noticing "signs" everywhere. The plan ultimately backfires, however, because Phil asks Olga first (to not lose her), and learns that while she likes the idea, she wants to wait for a bit; this discussion only reinforces their relationship.
  • Sarcasm-Blind: When Lobanov's patient claims to not knowing what to do with a thermometer, Lobanov sarcastically tells him to shove it in his ass (it's not a rectal thermometer; those are uncommon in Russia). He only realises his mistake when Bykov finds him like this. Even Bykov is surprised that the patient didn't realise that this was sarcasm, and asks him if he even has a sense of humour.
  • Too Dumb to Live: As Bykov points out, Lobanov's patient did not exactly brightest thing when he put that thermometer in his ass, since it was not a rectal one. Luckily for him, it didn't break inside, but it was a very real risk.
  • Wrong-Name Outburst: Lobanov accidentally called Irina "Olga" during sex. Gleb suggests to lie to her that Semyon strongly regrets this (to the point of considering suicide), so she definitely would forgive him... but Semyon refuses, as he no longer wants to stay with Irina: he wants Olga back.
