Recap / The Interns S 3 E 7

Go To

Kisegach offers Bykov to use Skype, so he would not be forced to come to her office every time she needs to tell him something. Unfortunately, she makes a mistake of mentioning Gleb, reminding Bykov about the reason why they must keep their relationship hidden in the first place.

Turns out that Levin is a hockey fan (and even played it when he was a child). He, along with Lobanov and Romanenko, would watch hockey match this night... but before this, somebody must bring booze. Lots of booze. Levin volunteers, but Bykov, who was at Kisegach's office during this time, busts him via camera in his laptop. Bykov attempts to force Levin into telling him why he needs so much booze, but Levin insists that it's all for himself, and even proceeds to drink all the beer alone to prove it (not being willed to rat out his friends), and quickly gets wasted; Bykov leaves him alone to sober up. Meanwhile, Lobanov gets asked by the four patients whose ward he visited to bring them a TV, so they can watch the hockey match, too. The problem is, they all have heart problems, so this may be dangerous for them: where is sport, there is stress. Lobanov agrees, but gets busted by Bykov while smuggling in a TV.

Bykov gets tired of Gleb's meddling in his relationship with Anastasia, and he decides to confront him. This backfires, since Gleb again gives Kisegach an ultimatum: either Gleb, or Bykov. This, in turn, leads to Gleb reminding Kisegach about her previous lovers, which leads to Bykov confronting her, since this was while he was attempting to "win" her. Meanwhile, Lobanov tries to steal Bykov's laptop, so the patients can watch hockey on it, but due to it being linked to Kisegach's laptop, he gets busted again. After this, Lobanov tries to just overhear the match (which Bykov ultimately watches by himself, along with Levin) and tell the patients the score, which results in one of them having a heart attack... and then Bykov accidentally makes it worse by revealing that Lobanov lied about results, and they're actually much worse.

This episode provides examples of:

  • Backstory of the Day: Levin, who is infamously boring and disinterested in physical activities, is actually a hockey fan, and even used to be a player himself in his childhood, only quitting due to hockey pug hitting him in the head.
  • Crazy Jealous Guy: Bykov reacts inadequately to the revelation that before him starting dating Kisegach, she had the other partners; if it was while he was already trying to hit on her, it counts as cheating for him!
  • I'm Standing Right Here: While Bykov has no personal presence, his laptop is linked to Kisegach's one via Skype, so everything going on in on-call room can be seen and heard in Kisegach's office:
    • When Kisegach demonstrates Bykov how Skype works, they see Levin smuggling beer into on-call room, mumbling that he hopes that Bykov wouldn't find out.
    • Bykov tries to confront Gleb about him meddling in Kisegach's relationship, perfectly aware that Kisegach can hear them, but not answer (he muted her). After this, Gleb runs to again repeat his ultimatum (dump Bykov or he would leave), and also reminds Kisegach about her previous lovers, whom he barely tolerated (and now it's Bykov's turn to hear all this). Bykov doesn't take it well.
    • When Lobanov tries to steal Bykov's laptop for hockey-loving patients (so they can watch the match online), he accidentally overhears how Bykov argues with Kisegach about her previous lovers, but when one of the patients accidentally says something, Bykov and Kisegach realises that Semyon overheard them. Bykov threatens to poke Semyon's eye if he would not stop this immediately.
  • Lethally Stupid: Semyon agrees to help four patients, who wants to watch a hockey match tonight — the patients with heart problems, with two outright being the heart attack survivors. Despite all Bykov's attempts to stop him, Semyon tries to smuggle a TV, then Bykov's laptop, and, when everything else failed, just tries to overhear the whole match and tell them the results. As result, one of the patients actually suffers a heart attack. And this is after Lobanov lied to them about the Russian team winning; when Bykov accidentally tells them that in truth the Russians lose with 7:3 score, every single one of them gets hit with a heart attack, including that one who just survived the previous one.
  • Out of Focus: Varya doesn't appear in this episode at all.
  • Taking the Heat: When Bykov catches Levin after his attempt to smuggle beer into the hospital (for the hockey match which would occur this night), he interrogates him in attempt to find the names of his accomplices. Levin insists that he brought all this booze for himself, but then Bykov suggests him to either prove that he is able to drink all this by himself, or just give up. Levin proceed to drink, and gets totally wasted, putting him out of condition for the rest of the day. Bykov eventually brings him to watch a match together out of pity.
  • What the Hell, Hero?: Bykov, tired of Gleb meddling in his relationship with Anastasia, calls him out on it. This backfires, since Gleb decides to repeat his ultimatum: Kisegach must break with Bykov, or he would quit internship. He also reminds her about her previous lovers, whom he barely tolerated, which, in turn, leads to Bykov confronting Kisegach herself.
