Recap / The Interns S 3 E 12

Go To

Semyon is still in gypsum after breaking his leg. He is forced to use a urinal... but every time he tries to do so, he gets interrupted; tons of awkwardness ensues. And then a new patient gets put into same ward with him...

Varya must spend a whole day with Bykov, because he misplaced his wrist watch, and wouldn't accept just taking anyone else's one (because "wrist watch is an intimate thing, like seaman's undies – once, and until death"). Unfortunately, she falls in deep trance near him (still being unable to deal with her feelings towards Bykov), constantly failing her tasks. Bykov grows tired of her inadequacy, and just confronts her about this.

Gleb's patient is a lonely woman who rather aggressively flirts with him... which creeps him out. Unfortunately, the patient doesn't take his rejection well, and lies to Kisegach that he harassed her. Just before this Gleb had a conversation with his mother about him constantly lying to her, so she wouldn't believe Gleb if he tries to complain about the patient. But Gleb fools the patient into retracting her complaint.

This episode provides examples of:

  • Blatant Lies: Gleb hires the other people to prepare fake complaints about him. They go a bit overzealous, and the resulting document fails to convince Kisegach, as there's simply no way to screw up so badly in so short amount of time. It doesn't help that Gleb was visiting her just recently, and asked wether she would believe everything the people would tell about him, so she quickly catches up with his plan.
  • Break His Heart to Save Him: Bykov decides to break Varya's heart, so she can concentrate on her job, and because their relationship would not end well (not in the last place because this "love" is purely one-sided).
  • Cannot Keep a Secret: The orderly Pyotr just can't keep in secret why he guards outside Lobanov's ward. Despite Lobanov asking him for help exactly because he needs to keep it in secret.
  • Chekhov's Gun: Bykov mentions that he misplaced his wrist watch somewhere. Gleb later finds that same watch... in his and his mother's house, which means that Kisegach lied to him about "dumping" Bykov.
  • Crying Wolf: Gleb lied to Kisegach constantly in the past. Now, she would not believe him when he claims his innocence in yet another incident... despite this time he tells her the truth. Gleb outright asks her wether she would believe everything that the other people would tell about him, and she bluntly says "yes". He decides to retaliate, by hiring the other people (lots of people) to construct a fake complaint about him. This still fails, because they goes overzealous, and she instantly guesses that he just faked all those complaints. The only way for him to prove that he really is innocent is if patient tells this herself (and just bribing her would not work).
  • Hypocrite: While Kisegach isn't wrong about Gleb constantly lying to her, she herself is lying about dumping Bykov, which she did promise.
  • Internal Reveal: Bykov learns about Varya's love to him. He decides to break her heart before the situation becomes even worse for both of them.
  • Love Makes You Dumb: Once again, when near Bykov, Varya can't act even remotely adequate. This time, she starts imagining her love confession to him, completely failing the tasks Bykov gives to her. Bykov quickly gets tired of this and forces her to tell the truth.
  • Mrs. Robinson: Gleb's patient is obviously older than him (and is not exactly attractive). She's not subtle in her attempts to flirt with him – which actually creeps him out. Unfortunately, she would not take "no" for an answer.
  • Not Good with Rejection: When Gleb refuses his patient's advances, she just lies to Kisegach that it was him who harassed her.
  • No Guy Wants to Be Chased: Gleb's patient is rather aggressive in her attempts to flirt with him. This also can be related to age difference, and her not being exactly attractive anyway.
  • Oh, Crap!: When Lyuba brings new patient into Semyon's ward (meaning that they would share it from now on), Semyon instantly realises that it's not gonna end well.
  • Out of Focus: Levin does not appear in this episode.
  • Poor Communication Kills: Had Semyon just told Lyuba why he needs privacy, it could have been much less humiliating. Instead, he asked orderly Pyotr for help, who then told everyone.
  • Potty Emergency: Lobanov is still in gypsum after breaking his leg, and so can only use urinal. Unfortunately, every time he tries to do so, he gets interrupted by someone (by Lyuba, by Varya, by Kisegach...), who then proceeds to waste his time on their stories. In the end, he decides to just hire the orderly Pyotr to guard his ward from everyone. But Pyotr can't keep in secret why he guards outside, and tells everyone who asks.
  • Troll: Gleb decides that it would be funny to gift Lobanov skates. Despite Semyon still not healing after breaking his leg in the previous episode.
