"Toadblatt’s School of Sorcery"

Original Air Date: June 13, 2003

Grim gets Billy and Mandy into Toadblatt's Summer School of Sorcery. They join Nigel Planter's infamous Weaselthorpe.

"Toadblatt’s School of Sorcery" contains examples of…

  • Actor Allusion: Dean Toadblatt is voiced by John Vernon who's most famous for playing Dean Wormer in Animal House. Toadblatt's recurring cry of "Gunderstank House!" is a reference to Wormer shouting "Delta House!" throughout the movie.
  • Parody Episode: Of Harry Potter.
  • Running Gag: "Gunderstank House!"
  • Stolen Credit Backfire: Nigel Planter keeps taking credit for Mandy's plans on sabotaging Gunderstank, much to Mandy's annoyance. While Weaselthorpe celebrates winning the house cup and Nigel attempts to kiss Mandy, the latter tricks Nigel into confessing how he "single-handedly" sabotaged Gunderstank in front of Dean Toadblatt (who was made the target of the pranks), enraging the Dean so much that he punishes Nigel by siccing the giant, one-eyed dwarf on him. By the time Nigel finally swallows his pride and admits it was actually Mandy's idea, it's already too late and no else will believe him.

"Educating Grim"

Original Air Date: June 13, 2003

Billy and Mandy take Grim to school with them, where he befriends Mandy's arch nemesis, Mindy. But is Mindy all that she seems?

"Educating Grim" contains examples of…

  • Alpha Bitch: Mindy in spades.
  • Anachronism Stew: Abraham Lincoln is alive and well and joins the group for the episode.
  • Early-Installment Weirdness: Mindy has two cronies in this episode and a few others before they disappear entirely.
  • If I Can't Have You…: A rare non-lethal, non-romantic example. Mandy tells Grim that this is why Mindy befriended him; as revenge for Mandy turning down her friendship when they were young.
Mandy: She didn’t take it well. That’s when she decided that if she couldn’t have me, no one would.
  • Shout-Out:

"It’s Hokey Mon!"

Original Air Date: June 13, 2003

After watching Billy and Irwin play with their "Hokey Monsters" cards, Grim makes the monsters come to life. Soon, all the other kids want their own cards to be real, too.

"It’s Hokey Mon!" contains examples of…

  • Affectionate Parody: Of Pokémon.
  • Begin with a Finisher: Mandy creates a monster that turns all the other monsters into slices of toast. It shows up while the other monsters are out destroying the city and immediately and simultaneously turns them all into toast. They are then eaten by a flock of hungry seagulls.
  • Cannot Keep a Secret: Grim warns Billy and Irwin that no one else can know about him having brought their Hokey Monsters cards to life. He has way too much faith in them, because they show off their real Hokey Monsters in literally the next scene.
  • Shout-Out: When Mandy sees the chaos caused by the now-living Hokey Monsters, she says, "I've had all I can stands, and I can't stands no more!"
  • Tempting Fate: When an entire mob of kids arrive at Billy’s house, demanding that Grim make their Hokey Monster cards real, too, he relents, and does this. The entire town descends into chaos before the end of the day.
Grim: Alright, bring me your cards and I’ll make your monsters. After all, what harm could it be?
