The One About The End Of The World

The partners discuss whether to promote Lucca or Rosalyn. A former client who is living on the street is suing Reddick-Boseman using Roland Blum's firm. Marissa finds a bug in Facetime that lets her listen in on the partner meeting.

They offer the partnership to Maia, but she has moved on.

Tropes

  • Bookends: Played With. The episode ends with Diane narrating her life again. Well, before the cliffhanger, anyway.
  • Category Traitor: Discussed. Lucca doesn't think she's a race traitor just because she doesn't have drinks after work. Jay points out that she does have have drinks after work, just with her white co-workers.
  • Nothing Personal: Maia represents the former clients suing Reddick-Boseman. Diane asks her outright if it's payback, but she replies that it is just lawyering.
  • Open Mouth, Insert Foot: Lucca says during a discussion about whether all American presidents are sociopaths that Obama probably sometimes wished he could go one day without having to be "the black president". It does not go over well.
  • Sesquipedalian Loquaciousness: Played for Laughs. Judge Toosi feels like this when he uses the word "ecosystem".
  • Title Drop: Maia mocks Diane thinking Reddick-Boseman was "fighting the good fight" when they made more money off their police brutality suits than their clients did.
  • Token Black Friend: Invoked by Jay when he tells Lucca her defense of "if I wouldn't have come to this firm if I weren't Black" is dangerously close to this trope.
