- Bookends: Played With. The episode ends with Diane narrating her life again. Well, before the cliffhanger, anyway.
- Category Traitor: Discussed. Lucca doesn't think she's a race traitor just because she doesn't have drinks after work. Jay points out that she does have have drinks after work, just with her white co-workers.
- Nothing Personal: Maia represents the former clients suing Reddick-Boseman. Diane asks her outright if it's payback, but she replies that it is just lawyering.
- Open Mouth, Insert Foot: Lucca says during a discussion about whether all American presidents are sociopaths that Obama probably sometimes wished he could go one day without having to be "the black president". It does not go over well.
