Day 471

Solomon, whose firm Diane refers to as "the whitest law firm in Chicago", wants to merge with Reddick-Boseman. Liz has a tiny problem with representing gangsters who threatened her and her family, like Lemond Bishop, and wife killers like Colin Sweeney.

Adrian gets shot in the chest. It makes Liz relent and unofficially share their client list with the police, who promptly invade Lemond Bishop's house. Adrian is able to communicate to Jay that the shooter was white and had his face covered in a red scarf.

A lawyer named Hayakawa is leaving the firm, and Diane and Maia find out that Solomon is trying to poach Sweeney and Bishop as clients. Diane pours her microdoses in a bathroom sink and pulls herself together.

Lucca asks Colin for a favor: inform his Democrat boss that their lawyer Solomon has signed drug-dealer Lemond Bishop and wife-killer Colin Sweeney. Marissa and Jay suspect Felix Staples was the gunman.

Tropes

  • Call-Back: Lemond Bishop from The Good Wife shows up at Reddick-Boseman. Liz recalls how his lawyer tried to intimidate her when she was prosecuting Bishop in her appearance on The Good Wife.
  • Distinction Without a Difference: Lucca considers it unlikely that Bishop is responsible for the shooting, because "that's not what he does". Colin agrees; Bishop doesn't kill people, he hires people to kill people for him.
  • Flipping the Bird: Diane gives Solomon this answer to his false offer of a merger.
  • Implausible Deniability: Naftali wants an exception clause in her pre-nup stating that if Sweeney dies in a kayak accident, she inherits his entire fortune. She insists she won't try to kill him.
  • Insistent Terminology: Colin Sweeney insists that he's never hit his fiancée Naftali, only spanked her.
  • Kiss-Kiss-Slap: Naftali ends their pre-nup negotiations by kissing Sweeney and punching him in the ribs.
  • Rule of Three: Adrian needs to appeal to three different people before he finds a person who reacts properly to the news that he's been shot.
  • Silent Credits: Adrian gets shot before the opening credits, so it's just things exploding in complete silence.
