A man shows up in Diane's office claiming he's being framed for cyber-terrorism. He thinks it's by the guy he's been arguing with the most on a forum. That guy turns out to be Mr. Staples, who denies involvement, but agrees to trap the responsible person by meeting whoever it is in a restaurant. It turns out to be the first man after all.
Maia is told she needs to be more assertive, and she tries. Kurt rescues a baby from a kidnapper and ends up in the hospital. A blackout occurs due to cyber-terrorism.
Tropes
- Advice Backfire: Adrian and Barbara told Maia to tail someone and learn assertiveness from them. They also told her not to take no for an answer. So when she decides to tail Adrian, she's not taking "not today" for an answer.
- Apologizes a Lot: Maia does this. Barbara and Adrian tell her to be more assertive.
- Batman Gambit: The hacker who claims to be framed for hacking the power grid gives Diane a flashdrive that Lucca takes to her ex at the DOJ where he inserts it into a government computer, releasing malware into their system. According to Staples this was the real hacker's plan all along.
- Bookends: The episode begins and ends with "Wild World" playing.
- Call-Back: At the hospital to check on Kurt, Diane spots a pair of feet sticking out from behind a curtain, reminiscent of when in season five of The Good Wife this was how she discovered her partner Will's dead body.
- Computer Virus: The flashdrive Lucca gets from the framed hacker contains a trojan horse.
- Frame-Up: A man comes to Diane and says he's being framed for cyber-terrorism.
- Good Parents: Zigzagged with Maia's parents. Henry weighs his 35-year plea against Maia's 5 years for perjury. He decides to take it, but reneges at the last minute and flees.
- Shout-Out: Diane calls Kurt "Sully" after she learns he saved a baby from a kidnapper.
- Something Only They Would Say: Jay and Marissa realize who the suspected framer is when they see him use the phrase "surgical Holocaust", a phrase Felix Staples used in episode six.
