...Henceforth Known as Property

Maia's ex boyfriend wrote a twitter bot that pretends to be her four years ago, and its obsession with canning fruit has started to take off, probably because of her recent high profile in the media due to her parents' ponzi scheme. Maia and Marissa try to talk to him, but end up having to start a rumor that he makes child pornography to get him to take it down.

An egg donor has lost the function of her ovaries and wants to buy back one of the eggs she donated to have a child. The only one left has been sold, but the couple who boughht it only want to mine it for genes to replace a genetic defect in the real mother's ova. However, it has already been fertilized, so it becomes a custody battle, which the couple loses.

Tropes

  • Bait-and-Switch: Collin pretends to proposition Lucca in a thinly veiled way. When she responds sarcastically, he reveals that he meant that he wanted share a milkshake with her.
  • Blatant Lies: Mike Kresteva plays with this. He lies in court about what Diane has said to him, in front of Diane. He did not lie about his son's passing, but Diane had to check, and he milks it for all it's worth.
  • Central Theme: Who owns an embryo's genetic material?
  • Framing the Guilty Party: Maia and Marissa decide to start a rumor that Maia's ex, a photographer, makes and distributes child pornography. This is technically true, as the nude photos of Maia that he gave his bot were taken when she was underage.
  • Mathematician's Answer: When asked by the opposing side's lawyer "how" they could get England involved in the case, Lucca replies that it was easy: they just dialled 44 and then the number.
  • Metaphorgotten: Subverted. In the embryo ownership case, the opposing side starts using an analogy where the embryo is like a stolen car, and it comes back to bite them when the judge asks why they would rather destroy their illegally bought car than return it to the owner.
  • Pay Evil unto Evil: Maia and Marissa decide to repay Maia's ex in kind, by posting rumors about him online.
  • Stalker with a Crush:
    • Maia's ex boyfriend is still mad at her for realizing she was gay and breaking up with him, so he refuses to take down the twitter bot he set up to impersonate her when she broke up with him.
    • Collin and Lucca argue back and forth about which of them is this to the other.
  • Title Drop: The thing referred to as property is a batch of donated ova, and the title is dropped in the reading of the contract.
