Go To

Original air date: 6/25/2022

Production code: 118b

The evicted McGees are reduced to living in the woods due to the previous episode. As Molly tries to ensure that everything is fine, Scratch does his best to keep any potential tenants away from what he deems Molly's home. Soon, one character's unexpected action could change their luck...

Tropes:

  • Bookends: The previous episode had Sharon place Grandma Nin's golden tree knickknack on the fireplace. After getting their house back, Sharon places the same knickknack on the same location.
  • Blatant Lies:
    • Molly doesn't want Libby to learn of her situation and keeps telling her that everything is totally normal. Molly even sings a song about it. Libby knows her too well to be fooled.
    • When Andrea discovers Molly and her family living in the woods and asks if they're living in a van, Molly claims they're just camping. Andrea clearly doesn't buy it so she helps Molly and her family by getting everyone in Brighton to raise enough money to help the McGees buy back their home.
    • Scratch claims that his curse is still working. Molly is very touched.
  • Creepy Child: Candace eventually manages to sell the house to a couple that's glad to have a haunted house, because they want to raise their soon to be born baby around a ghost. The baby presses its face against the wall of the mother's womb to greet Scratch, creating an impression on her belly that freaks Scratch out.
  • Curse Escape Clause: Since Molly did leave, the curse that Scratch has put on her (and himself) is broken. At this point, Scratch just doesn't care anymore.
  • Determinator: Realtor Candace Green refuses to give up on selling Scratch's house, no matter how many buyers he scares away. She even touts the fact that it's haunted as an asset to attract buyers, eventually getting an offer from a creepy couple.
  • Deus ex Machina: Andrea, of all people, manages to make the Brightonians aware of Molly's homelessness and raises enough money so that the McGee family can buy their house back.
  • Diegetic Soundtrack Usage: Pete sings the episode's song while showering.
  • Fantastically Indifferent: Scratch is known to the realtor Candace Green, and she's determined not to let his haunting keep her from selling the house. He even confronts her directly to plead the McGee's case.
  • For Want Of A Nail: Molly and her family are able to get their house back all because Andrea went with her father to see where his new warehouse will be built in the woods and Andrea overhears Molly venting about her problems to Darryl. After seeing what Molly and her family are going through, Andrea leaves and Molly chases after her to stop her from telling anyone about their predicament, but Scratch pops in front of Molly's face and she's too happy to see Scratch again to remember Andrea. Because Molly didn't stop Andrea, Andrea is able to get everyone in Brighton to raise money for the McGees so they can buy their house back.
  • Gilligan Cut: Scratch says he has one last trick up his sleeve to keep the McGee's house from being resold and starts laughing diabolically. Cut to him tearfully pleading to Candace not to resell it.
  • Green-Eyed Monster: Scratch and Libby are instantly mad at Andrea when she declares Molly her best friend.
  • Hero Antagonist: Candace Green, the realtor. Selling the house is her job and she is determined to succeed, with or without haunting ghosts. While she becomes sympathetic to the McGee's situation, she can't change the fact that the house is no longer theirs.
  • Hidden Depths: Andrea's head of the Geode Club.
  • Homeless Hero: Molly and her family are living in the woods now.
  • I Choose to Stay: Since the McGees were forced to leave the house in the previous episode, the curse binding Scratch to Molly is broken, and they both realize there's nothing stopping him from leaving. Scratch, having grown genuinely fond of her and her family by this point however, doesn't care about it anymore and reassures her that he has no intention of leaving anytime soon.
Molly: Hey, uh, Scratch? I-I've been thinkin'… we left the house, so the curse is broken, isn't it? Which means, you're not stuck with me anymore?
Scratch: What? Er, uh, where'd you get that idea? T-That's not how it works! I'll prove it. Say "Scratch".
    Molly: Scratch.
Scratch: (playfully as he willingly floats backwards to her) Whoa, I can't stop myself! (smiles at her as she tears up) See? There you go. (hugs her) I'm not goin' anywhere.
  • Inelegant Blubbering: Scratch cries very messily when pleading Candace not to sell the McGees' house.
  • Insistent Terminology: After Candace Green dismisses Scratch's floating candelabra trick as a cliche, Scratch says it's a "homage".
  • Karmic Jackpot: After giving back to Brighton since they moved in, the city decides it's their turn to give back to the McGees. They all crowdfund to get them their house back.
  • Lives in a Van: The McGees resort to parking in the woods with their moving trailer. Andrea finds them and mentions how they're living off a van.
  • Nightmare Fetishist: Scratch is unable to scare away a macabre couple that are eager to live in a haunted house.
  • Pet the Dog: Andrea not only saves Molly and her family from having to leave Brighton, but publicly reveals that she considers Molly her best friend. Molly is surprised but happy.
  • Right for the Wrong Reasons: When the Brightonians raise the money her family needs to buy back their house, Molly assumes Libby was behind it and deduces she saw through her attempt to convince her everything was normal. While Libby did see through Molly's lie, it was Andrea who saved Molly's family.
  • Shout-Out:
  • Stepford Smiler: Molly tries to smile through her life now homeless, but it's clearly a facade to the observant, especially Libby, and especially during the "Everything is Totally Normal" musical number.
  • Stock "Yuck!": Scratch eats one of the cookies Candace leaves out for prospective buyers, but spits it out because it has raisins.
  • Wham Episode: The episode ends with the McGees getting their house back. And because Molly technically left the house, her and Scratch's curse is broken, not that Scratch cares anymore.
  • Wingding Eyes: Molly gets spiral eyes at one point in the "Everything's Normal" song, showing how she definitely is not normal.

Home is Where the Haunt Is

Just as the McGees are about to leave Brighton after being forced out of their home, Andrea Davenport manages to rally the townsfolk into raising enough money for Molly and her family to get their house back, all because of all the good deeds the McGees have done for the town ever since moving into Brighton. Andrea even goes as far as calling Molly her best friend.
