Go To

Jazz sets up Will with his sister, Janet. Will is attracted to her at first, but quickly finds he got more than he bargained for.

Tropes:

  • Abhorrent Admirer: Jazz to Hilary, Janet to Will, and then at the end of the episode, Will to Janet.
  • Aside Glance: Will does this by the end of the first half of the episode after Janet gives him a tirade on what she expects from him during their date. He also does this by the end of the episode after Jazz's attempt to win Hilary over with a tirade demanding respect ends up getting him thrown out the house.
  • Beware the Nice Ones: Carlton's politeness causes him to stand up to Janet, which both Will and Jazz had been too scared to do, in order to reprimand her for her rudeness.
  • Big Sister Instinct: Subverted between Hilary and Ashley when the latter gets a phone call from a boy in her class. Hilary believes he should have called earlier, and so hangs up on him despite Ashley's pleas.
  • Clingy Jealous Girl: Janet dislikes Will talking to other girls, regardless if it's just casual or flirtatious.
  • Comically Missing the Point: This exchange:
Janet: I got a scholarship to go to UCLA.
Hilary: Well, we certainly know who got the brains in your family.
Jazz: Yeah, but Janet ain't stupid.
  • Control Freak: Janet quickly exerts these tendencies over Will, controlling everything in his life from what he eats to who he talks with.
  • Getting the Boot: Happens to Jazz twice in this episode as per Running Gag, though it's actually Will and Hilary who do it to him rather than Uncle Phil.
  • Gone Horribly Right: After Janet pushes him to his limits, Will tries to have Carlton get with her with the view that Carlton will be a Sacrificial Lamb. However, not only does Janet get a liking for Carlton, she loses her controlling attitude in the process due to Carlton actually standing up to her and her Power Dynamics Kink. Will tries to try his chances with Janet again at the end of the episode, but she has none of it.
  • Ironic Echo: When Jazz tries to hook up Will with his sister, Will tells him that it could jeopardize their friendship, which Jazz replies he's willing to take the risk. When Will does get introduced to Janet and changes his mind, Jazz tells him the same thing Will told him earlier, in which Will gives him the same reply he received from Jazz himself.
  • Power Dynamics Kink: At the end of the episode, it's revealed Janet has one, which causes her to not only choose Carlton over Will after he gives a "The Reason You Suck" Speech, but lose her controlling attitude in the process.
  • Right Behind Me: Twice in the episode, Uncle Phil talks about Aunt Vivian's bossy attitude, unaware that Vivian is right behind him both times. Things quickly get awkward for Phil when he realizes.
  • "The Reason You Suck" Speech: Carlton gives one to Janet over her poor manners at the end of the episode. Will and Jazz brace for certain doom, but the speech instead causes Janet to do a Heel–Face Turn and fall for Carlton.
  • Sibling Yin-Yang: Jazz and Janet are barely anything alike, especially in terms of their looks and intelligence.
