Recap / The Dreamstone S 01 E 09 Too Hot To Handle

Go To

Original Air Date (UK): Nov 20, 1990

The Urpneys plant some exploding candles to create a diversion in the Dream Maker's house. They get Amberley out of the way, then use their diversion to make the Dreamstone accessible to Zordrak's Argorribles. However, Wildit thwarts their ruse.

Tropes featured in the episode:

  • Bound and Gagged: Mr Wacks, and later Amberley.
  • Call-Back: Several to the pilot episode, mostly in the form of flashbacks:
    • Captain Crigg being executed by Zordrak.
    • Rufus being fired by Mr Wacks.
  • Chekhov's Gun: The revelation of good dreams being able to turn the Urpneys docile would come in handy in several episodes afterwards.
  • Diegetic Soundtrack Usage: Amberley hums "Better Than A Dream" as she walks towards Wacks' shop.
  • Dressing as the Enemy:
    • Blob kidnaps and poses as candle maker Mr Wacks to get Amberley to obliviously deliver the villains' exploding candles to the Dream Maker.
    • After Amberley finds out and is captured, Frizz poses as her to deliver them himself. He wisely keeps his distance so the Dream Maker can't recognise the difference however.
  • Flashback: A large amount of them, most of which are footage of events from the pilot, though some track back into earlier periods such as Pildit as a child.
  • Paper-Thin Disguise: Blob posing as Mr Wacks. Though Amberley is suspicious, it takes until the disguise falls off for her to completely see through it.
  • Pragmatic Villainy: When Urpgor asks why Zordrak does not dispose of Blob as he had Captain Crigg (and previous others), Zordrak after some thought decides the method isn't particularly productive and deposing of a serviceable Urpney is a waste.
Zordrak: And...it has absolutely nothing whatsoever to do with you.
